BOSTON, Mass. – Seniors Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) and Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) each tallied three points, including a goal each, to lead the Simmons University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over visiting Rivier University this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play, while the Raiders fall to 1-2-0 and 0-2-0.

Simmons dominated play with a 29-0 shot advantage and held a 9-3 margin on corner kicks.

Elliott helped put the Sharks on the board when she sent a cross from the right side of the box to classmate Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) for her second marker of the season in the 20th minute of play. Cottam followed with her first tally of the year on a shot that she lofted over the outstretched fingertips of the Rivier keeper with just 70 seconds remaining in the first half for a 2-0 lead.

Elliott cracked the scoring column herself to give Simmons a 3-0 advantage when she bodied a corner kick, served from first year Gabriella Cacia (Watertown, Mass.), into the back of the net at 52:01 of the second stanza. Cottam assisted on sophomore Nell Spencer's (Buxton, Maine) first goal of the year, following a free kick that found the back of the net from 20 yards out.

Senior keeper Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) registered her first career shutout for the Sharks, while Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, Mass.) made 15 saves for Rivier.

Simmons returns to action tomorrow night when it hosts Lesley University for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Daly Field, while the Raiders host GNAC foe Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on September 15 at 1:00 p.m.
