Soccer Falls at Colby-Sawyer, 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. -- The Simmons University women's soccer team fell at host Colby-Sawyer College, 3-0, in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference season opener at Kelsey Field in New London, N.H. The Sharks fall to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play, while the Chargers improve to 1-2-0 and 1-0-0.

The Sharks fall to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play, while the Chargers improve to 1-2-0 and 1-0-0.

Simmons held a 16-15 shooting edge and both teams enjoyed five corner kick opportunities.

Colby-Sawyer broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute when senior Amanda Martin (Amesbury, Mass.) sent a ball ticketed towards the net from 35 yards out that snuck over the outstretched reach of the Sharks keeper.

In the 73rd minute, the Chargers added to their lead when senior Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) took a shot that was saved by the keeper, but Fields collected the rebound immediately and deposited the home team's second goal of the match into the back of the net. 

Martin struck again with her second marker of the afternoon on a strike in the 83rd minute. She scored on another long range attempt to put Colby-Sawyer up for good, 3-0. 

Simmons senior keeper Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) made five stops., while senior Oona Bond (Southborough, Mass.) had five saves to earn the shutout for the Chargers. 

The Sharks host GNAC rival Rivier University on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. at Daly Field, while Colby-Sawyer travels to Newton, Mass. to take on Lasell College on the same day for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
