Forde, Halle Lift Soccer over UMass Dartmouth, 1-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- Junior midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) scored the only goal of the match to lead the Simmons College women?s soccer team to a 1-0 win over host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth tonight at Cressy Field, in North Dartmouth, Mass. The Sharks improve to 8-5-2 on the season, while the Corsairs drop to 4-12-1.

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- Junior midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) scored the only goal of the match to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth tonight at Cressy Field, in North Dartmouth, Mass. The Sharks improve to 8-5-2 on the season, while the Corsairs drop to 4-12-1.

Forde tallied the lone goal at 58:28 in the match, when junior midfielder, Lauren Brandau (Madison, Conn.) sent a cross from the right side of the field to a waiting Forde at the six-yard box, where she beat the UMD keeper, to give Simmons a 1-0 edge.

Forde's goal broke a three-way tie with junior forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) and senior midfielder Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) for a team-high in goals.

Sharks' senior goalkeeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) and the Simmons defense stood tall preserving the lead for the remaining 31:32 of the match for the win. Halle made eight saves on the night to earn her eighth career shutout, while senior goalie Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) kept her team within a goal, turning away six shots for the Corsairs.

Despite owning a 17-10 edge in shots, UMass Dartmouth was unable to find the back of the net. Senior forward Becca Field (Brentwood, N.H.) led the attack for the Corsairs with five shots and three on goal.

Simmons is back in action on Saturday October 21 when it heads to Newton, Mass to play Mount Ida College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular season finale at 7:00 p.m., while UMD resumes Little East Conference play when it travels to Portland, Maine to take on Southern Maine for a 3:00 p.m. contest on the same day.
