Soccer Defeated at Lasell, 6-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Simmons women?s soccer team fell to host Lasell College, 6-0, this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference season opener at Taylor Field in Auburndale, Mass. The Sharks drop to 1-2-1 on the season overall, including 0-1-0 in league play, while the Lasers improved to 1-2-0 and 1-0-0 in GNAC play.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons women's soccer team fell to host Lasell College, 6-0, this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference season opener at Taylor Field in Auburndale, Mass. The Sharks drop to 1-2-1 on the season overall, including 0-1-0 in league play, while the Lasers improved to 1-2-0 and 1-0-0 in GNAC play.

The home team outshot Simmons 24-8 on the day, including 14-2 margin in the second half. The Sharks faced a 10-1 deficit in corner kicks, as well. Four different players scored for the Lasers, while two players scored multiple goals.

Sophomore forward Caitlin Rotonnelli (Meredith, N.H.) opened the scoring for the Lasers, scoring her first of the day, 18:09 into the match off a rebound from an Erika Badger (Scituate, Mass.) strike. The home team added a second goal before halftime, off the foot of first year midfielder, Erin Petrocelli (Hanover, Mass.) at 33:09 in the first half. Sophomore forward, Sarah Cullen (Marblehead, Mass.) slotted a through ball through the Simmons defense to find Petrocelli, who did the rest, notching her first collegiate goal, to make it 2-0 before the intermission.

Badger tallied a goal of her own, unassisted, just over fifteen minutes into the second half, commanding a 3-0 Lasell lead. Petrocelli added her second of the game a little over ten minutes later, striking a ball to the far post to make it 4-0 at the 72:08 mark. The Lasers capped the scoring with two goals in a span of 1:19, with Rotonnelli adding her second goal of the game, assisted by Sabrina Morais (Arlington Mass.) to increase the lead to 5-0 and Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) becoming the fourth scorer of the day for Lasell, when a Morgan Pinksten (Pelham, N.H.) pass sprung Meissner for a breakaway, to make it 6-0 at 84:38.

Senior midfielder Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore forward Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) led the Simmons offense with a pair of shots each.

Senior goalkeeper, Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) logged 11 saves for Sharks in the loss, recording her second double-digit save effort this season. For the Lasers, senior goalkeeper, Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.), gained her first win of the season in net, turning away four shots in 86:15 of action, while Hayden Wheeler (Hubbardston, Mass.) did not record a save in the remaining 3:45 of play.

Simmons is back at home for their next game, in a conference matchup with University of Saint Joseph's (Conn.) on Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 pm at Daly Field, while Lasell heads to Danbury, Conn. to take on Western Connecticut State University on September 11 for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
