Soccer Edged by Eastern Connecticut, 1-0, in Regular-Season Finale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the opening half en-route to a 2-0 victory over visiting Simmons College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks fall to 1-4-1 overall, including 1-1-0 in league play, while the Falcons improve to 2-3-1 and 1-0-1.

The Sharks fall to 8-8-2 on the season, while the Warriors are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 games and run their win streak to three straight, while improving to 11-3-2 on the season.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women's soccer team was edged by visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 1-0, this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 8-8-2 on the season, while the Warriors are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 games and run their win streak to three straight, while improving to 11-3-2 on the season. 

Eastern Connecticut State owned a 24-8 shot advantage, including 15-4 in the opening half, and held an 11-1 margin on corner kicks. 

Junior forward Emily Becher (Brooklyn, Conn.) scored the only goal of the night in the 79th minute to give the Warriors the win. Becher ended nearly 79 minutes of scoreless play when she carried the ball down the left side of the box for the Warriors, drew the keeper out, and snuck a shot past her in the slot for the forward's team-high ninth marker of the year at 78:50. 

Simmons looked to pull even with less than three minutes remaining in the contest when sophomore forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) broke free on the right side of the box, but her shot went wide right to end the team's best scoring threat of the evening. 

Junior keeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) made a career-high 14 saves for the Sharks, while sophomore goalie Kayla Labrecque (Westhampton, Mass.) stopped all five shots she faced to record her sixth shutout of the season for Eastern Connecticut State. 

Simmons returns to action on Sunday, October 30 when it heads to Standish, Maine to take on Saint Joseph's College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at 1:00 p.m., while the Warriors host Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College on October 29 at Nevers Field for a 1:00 p.m. contest in their regular-season finale.
