Forde Leads Soccer over Anna Maria, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. ? Sophomore midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) netted a goal and assisted on another to lead the Simmons College women?s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are unbeaten in six of their last seven matches and improve to 7-6-2 overall, including 6-3-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 2-12-0 and 1-8-0.

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) netted a goal and assisted on another to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are unbeaten in six of their last seven matches and improve to 7-6-2 overall, including 6-3-0 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 2-12-0 and 1-8-0. 

Simmons dominated play, holding a commanding 51-2 shot advantage, including 29 shots on goal, while owning an 18-2 margin on corner kicks. The shot total is the highest for the home team since October 6, 2012 when they unleashed 53 attempts in a match. 

Forde put the Sharks on the board when she collected a loose ball in the left corner of the box and put it just inside the near post for her fourth goal of the season at 17:16 of the opening half. Simmons added one more goal before the half. Forde lifted a corner kick to the front of the net, where junior midfielder Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) directed the ball into the back of the net with a header at 28:43 for her team-high seventh marker of the year. 

The Sharks added an insurance goal in the 67th minute when sophomore midfielder Lauren Brandau's (Madison, Conn.) shot was stopped by the Anna Maria keeper and first year forward Rachel Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) was there for the put-back tally at 66:19 for a 3-0 lead. 

Junior forward Ashley Bottis (Rutland, Mass.) and senior midfielder Rebecca Mauricio (Pawtucket, R.I.) each directed a shot on net to lead the AMCATS' offense. 

Sophomore goalie Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) made two saves to register her first career shutout for Simmons, while junior keeper Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) stopped a career-high matching 26 shots for Anna Maria. 

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, October 19 when they host GNAC rival Johnson & Wales University on Daly Field at 7:00 p.m., while the AMCATS host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on the same day at 4:00 p.m.
