Soccer Plays Eastern Nazarene to 1-1 Tie in Double Overtime

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Simmons College women?s soccer team played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime against visiting Eastern Nazarene College this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are now 6-6-2 on the season, while the Lions are 3-10-1.

BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie in double overtime against visiting Eastern Nazarene College this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are now 6-6-2 on the season, while the Lions are 3-10-1. 

Simmons owned a 15-10 shot margin, while each team registered seven corner kicks. 

The Sharks got on the board first, less than eight minutes into the match. Sophomore midfielder Cíara Forde (Quincy, Mass.) intercepted a clear attempt inside the box and sent a low shot into the far right corner at 7:36 of the first half for her third goal of the season and a 1-0 edge. 

The score remained a one-goal game as the teams headed to the locker rooms at intermission. 

Eastern Nazarene got the equalizer as a result of a scrum in front of the net in the 71st minute of play. Junior midfielder Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) sent a cross from the left side of the box to the front of the net, where a crashing Alexis Schmidt (North Smithfield, R.I.) was able to direct the ball into the back of the net for her third marker of the year with 19:20 remaining in the contest. 

The score remained tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play and each keeper was called on to make just one save apiece in both overtimes combined. 

Sophomore keeper Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) stopped four shots in her first collegiate start for Simmons, while junior goalie Anastasia Swift (Morrisville, Vt.) made seven saves for the Lions. 

The Sharks return to the turf on Saturday, October 15 when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Anna Maria College at 11:00 a.m. on Daly Field, while Eastern Nazarene hosts Roger Williams University on the same day at 12:30 p.m.
