NEWTON, Mass. – Junior midfielder Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) tallied five points on a pair of goals and an assist to lead the Simmons College women's soccer team over host Mount Ida College, 5-0, this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Alumni Field in Newton, Mass. The Sharks have won four of their last five contests and improve to 6-6-1 overall and 5-3-0 in GNAC play, while the Mustangs fall to 3-10-0 and 1-7-0.

Gammon scored two of Simmons' first three goals in the opening 20 minutes. 

Gammon opened the scoring for the Sharks just under four minutes into the game when she took a pass from classmate Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.), finessing it around the Mount Ida keeper to find herself with an open net. She then fed Gilbert four minutes later on a long ball that bounced past the Mustangs' goalie, leaving the first year free to score her fourth goal of the season.

Gammon's second tally of the afternoon and team-leading sixth of the season was unassisted on a tough angle from the end line at 16:26 of the first half, giving Simmons a 3-0 lead into the break. The remainder of the half was scoreless, leaving the Sharks with a 3-0 lead at the intermission.

The score remained 3-0 until 77:21 of the match when senior midfielder Elise Nothacker (Philadelphia, Pa.) notched her first goal of the year, knocking home the rebound off of a corner kick, increasing the lead to 4-0.

Gilbert's second goal of the game matched her career high and came with less than a minute to play after she was able to tip in a feed from senior Allison Bondi (Macomb, Mich.) to pad the Shark's lead.

Simmons outshot Mount Ida 26-6 on the day, with Mustangs' first year keeper AnnaMarie Selier (Biddeford, Maine) turning away 10 shots. Sharks' junior goalkeeper Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced in 69:48 of action, before sophomore goalie Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) played the final 20:12 of action without seeing a shot.

Simmons is back in action on Wednesday, October 10 when it hosts Eastern Nazerene College at 7:00 p.m. on Daly Field in a non-conference match. Mount Ida College will be on the road in Boston, Mass. at GNAC opponent Suffolk University on Saturday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m.
