BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) netted the lone goal for the Simmons College women's soccer team in a 2-1 loss to visiting Wellesley College this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The match was the first-ever played on the turf at Daly Field. The Sharks fall to 0-1, while the Blue improve to 1-0 following the season-opener for both squads.

First year forward Carley Phillips (Waterford, Conn.) netted the first two goals of her career to lead Wellesley.

The Blue outshot Simmons, 12-3, and owned a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks as well.

Phillips' second goal of the night gave the Blue a 2-1 edge at the 65:36 mark of the second half. The Simmons keeper came off her line to challenge the Wellesley charge, but got tangled up and Phillips collected a loose ball in the left side of the box and flipped a shot into the open net for the visitors' first lead of the evening.

The Sharks opened the scoring midway through the first half at the 18:45 mark. Junior forward Kashka Gammon (Nashua, N.H.) carried the ball into the right side of the box, before centering to the middle, where sophomore forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) directed the ball into the back of the net with a header for a 1-0 lead. Simmons went into the intermission with the one-goal margin.

Phillips knotted the contest at 1-1 for Wellesley with her first collegiate goal coming at 53:07 of the second stanza when she curled a corner kick out of the reach of the Sharks' keeper.

First year keeper Olivia Reckley (Grosse Ile, Mich.) turned away two shots to earn her first career victory for the Blue, while junior goalie Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) made seven saves for Simmons.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, September 3 when they host Lesley University at Daly Field at 11:00 a.m., while Wellesley heads to Farmington, Maine on the same day to take on University of Maine-Farmington at 3:00 p.m.
