Greer Scores to give Soccer a 1-0 Win at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, MA) tallied the lone goal for the second straight match to give the Simmons College women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over host Albertus Magnus College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks have won four of their last five contests -- all by shutout and all in league play -- to improve to 5-5-2 overall and 4-2-0 in GNAC action, while the Falcons fall to 5-7-1 and 2-3-1.

PAXTON, Mass. ? Simmons forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) scored a late first half goal en route to a natural hat-trick to propel the visiting Sharks past the Anna Maria College AMCATS in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at AMCAT Field on Wednesday night.

First year midfielder Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) found Gilbert with a cross inside the box that she put into the back of the net at the 61:28 mark for her fifth goal of the season and a 1-0 edge for Simmons.

Gilbert's tally was her third game-winner of the year for the Sharks.

Simmons edged Albertus Magnus on shots, 8-7, while the home team owned a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Junior forward Aracia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) and sophomore forward Kaitlyn Fedumenti (Stratford, Conn.) each fired a pair of shots to lead the Falcons' offense.

Junior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) turned away all three shots she faced to post her fourth shutout of the season and the 12th of her career for the Sharks. Junior goalie Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) made five saves for Albertus Magnus.

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, October 11 when it hosts Anna Maria College on Winsor Field at 2:00 p.m., while the Falcons host Emmanuel College on the same day at 2:15 p.m.
