NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior keeper Briana Hayes (Manorville, N.Y.) stopped all seven shots she faced to record a shutout for the Simmons College soccer team in a 0-0 double overtime tie at host Smith College this afternoon in Northampton, Mass. The Sharks extend their unbeaten streak to three matches with a record of 1-0-2, while the Pioneers are now 0-0-1 following their home opener.

Smith owned a 19-11 shot advantage, including 5-3 in the overtime periods. The Pioneers had a scoring chance early in the first overtime when first-year forward Vicki Kraft's (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) shot just 21 seconds into the first overtime clanged off the top crossbar, while the ensuing rebound failed to find the back of the net.

Kraft later put another shot on net just 3:30 into the second overtime, but Hayes turned it away to keep the match scoreless.

Simmons junior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) had a scoring strike of her own stopped just six minutes into the second overtime by Smith first year keeper Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass.)

The shutout was the ninth in Hayes' distinguished career, while Hall finished with six saves for the Pioneers to record a shutout as well.

The Sharks will return to play on Saturday, September 6 when they head to Wellesley, Mass. to take on Wellesley College at 11:30 a.m., while Smith travels to North Adams, Mass. on the same day to take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 4:30 p.m.
