NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team got a penalty-kick goal fromBaylie Lamarre (Tyngsboro, Mass.), but it wasn't enough as Simmons College rallied to score two goals in the final 20 minutes on Wednesday night to push past the Cadets for a 3-1 victory at Sabine Field.

Simmons (5-5-0, 2-2-0 GNAC) got a pair of goals from sophomore leading scorer Greer Gilbert and another from classmate Desh Perera as the Sharks snapped a three-game skid with the victory.

The speedy Gilbert had a hand in all three Shark goals as she also picked up the assist on Perera's goal, which broke a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute after Lamarre buried a penalty kick in the 57th minute to briefly level the score for Norwich.

Gilbert opened the scoring in the 29th minute after Perera beat a Norwich defender down the right wing and then dropped the ball back to Gilbert, who buried the ball into the back of the net after NU freshman goalkeeper Molly Miller (Raymond, Maine) came off her line to challenge Perera.

Lamarre notched her second goal of the season with a well-placed penalty kick into the bottom left corner of the net to beat Simmons' goalkeeper Amber Verrill after Norwich's Barb Neto (West Warwick, R.I.) drew the PK after a collision with Verrill just inside the 18-yard box.

However, Norwich (0-9-0, 0-4-0 GNAC) was unable to keep the speedy Simmons striker tandem of Perera and Gilbert contained as the two hooked up again for the Sharks' second goal in the 71stminute to give Simmons the lead for good.

Gilbert added an insurance tally in the 81st minute when she buried a rebound into the back of the net after Miller made an excellent diving save to rob Ainslie Gibbs on a great scoring chance from the left side of the box.

Miller made 12 saves for Norwich in her first game action since the season opener against Johnson State on Aug. 30. Verrill picked up the victory for Simmons in her first game action of the year after she relieved Briana Hayes, who played the first half and made one save for Simmons.

Norwich continues its home stand on Saturday night when it hosts Emmanuel College in another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup at Sabine Field starting at 7 p.m.
