MILTON, Mass. -- Senior attack Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied five points to lead the Simmons College women's lacrosse team in a 9-7 loss to host Curry College this afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field in Milton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 7-6 on the season, while the Colonels improve to 4-7.

Fries scored four goals and assisted on another to give her 12 multi-goal efforts for the season, including eight outings with four or more markers for Simmons. She also added a ground ball, while first year midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) netted a pair of goals to go with an assist and three draw controls. Sophomore Kingsley Richards (Lexington, Mass.) and juniors Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) and Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) each tallied a goal as well for the Sharks. Cottam won a game-high six draw controls in addition to a ground ball and a caused turnover, while sophomore midfielder Amina Mansouri (Revere, Mass.) picked up a team-high four ground balls to go with two caused turnovers. First year goalie Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) turned away 15 shots for the visitors.

Sophomore midfielder Abby Dubel (Wolfeboro, N.H.) led Curry with four goals and added three draw controls, a pair of caused turnovers and a ground ball. Sophomore attacker Leona Stevens (Kingston, Mass.) registered four points on three goals and an assist in addition to a ground ball, while first year defender Allie Wysocki (Agawam, Mass.) scored twice and added a ground ball and a caused turnover. Junior defender Harper Meakin (Marblehead, Mass.) caused a game-best three turnovers and added two ground balls. First year goalie Amy Collard (Lakeville, Mass.) earned the win with 10 saves for the Colonels.

Curry scored three of the final four goals of the game to break an 8-8 tie and come away with the victory. Reinhold found the back of the net for Simmons to pull it even at 8-8 with 19:26 left in the second half. The Colonels scored three unanswered goals in a span of four minutes with Dubel bookending a pair of markers around a score from Wysocki to give the home team an 11-8 lead. Fries scored her 45th goal of the season at the four-minute mark for the Sharks to cut the deficit to 11-9, but it was the last goal by either team for the rest of the match.

Curry jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening 14 minutes of the game, keyed by a pair of free position goals from Stevens, before Simmons countered with five straight markers of its own, including the final four of the first half. Fries netted two of the goals to pace the Sharks flurry to end the period. Williams scored 3:11 into the second half on a feed from Fries to knot the contest at 5-5. Dubel and Reinhold traded scores in a span of 11 seconds, before Stevens and Dubel scored a goal each in the next 36 seconds of play to take an 8-6 lead for the Colonels. Fries and Reinhold answered for Simmons to tie the match.

The Sharks return to action on Tuesday, April 15 when they travel to New Britain, Conn. to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe University of Saint Joseph in a match played at Central Connecticut State University at 7:00 p.m., while Curry hosts Endicott College on April 14 at 12:00 p.m.
