Fries Becomes Fourth Player in School History with 100 Career Goals; Lax Beats St. Joseph (CT), 15-1

BOSTON, Mass. ? Junior attacker Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) became just the fourth Simmons College women?s lacrosse player in school history to net 100 or more career goals with a pair of scores in a 15-1 victory over visiting University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest today at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-6 overall, including 2-1 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 2-2 and 0-2.

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior attacker Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) became just the fourth Simmons College women's lacrosse player in school history to net 100 or more career goals with a pair of scores in a 15-1 victory over visiting University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest today at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-6 overall, including 2-1 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 2-2 and 0-2. 

Fries tallied her second goal of the day with 20:19 left to play in the opening half on a free position shot to give Simmons a 6-0 lead and become just the fourth player in school history to score 100 career goals. She needed just two shots and also added a ground ball and a caused turnover. She was one of five players on the afternoon to net multiple goals for the home team. First year attacker Kate Bowers (Belchertown, Mass.) registered a pair of goals, picked up three ground balls, caused a pair of turnovers and won a draw control. Sophomore attacker Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) collected three points with two goals and an assist, in addition to a ground ball and a caused turnover. First years Amina Mansouri (Revere, Mass.) and Jessica Andrew (Lakeland, Fla.)each scored a pair of markers, including the first two of Andrew's collegiate career. She also picked up three ground balls and won a draw control. 

The Sharks dominated the draw, winning 15 of 18 draw controls, and controlled possession for the majority of the match. Simmons owned a robust 31-2 shot advantage and was a perfect 9-9 on clear attempts. Sophomore midfielder Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) won a career-high eight draws and also scored a goal and assisted on another. Junior goalie Chyenne Yeager (Indiana, Pa.) earned the victory, facing just one shot on goal for 60 minutes. 

Junior attacker Hannah Lemek (Bristol, Conn.) led Saint Joseph with a goal to go with two ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Sophomore defender Diamond Wallen (Hartford, Conn.) came up with three ground balls and caused a turnover, while junior goalie Emily Bourassa (Bristol, Conn.) stopped nine shots for the Blue Jays and caused a trio of turnovers. 

Simmons scored the first nine goals of the game in the first 17:30 of play in the first half, including sophomore Lauren Williams' (Bowdoinham, Maine) first collegiate score at the 13:31 mark of the opening period. Lemek broke the scoring drought for Saint Joseph, scoring the team's lone goal with 12:06 remaining in the first half. Andrew followed with her first career goal just 19 seconds later for the Sharks to give them a 10-1 lead with 11:47 to play in the half. Simmons held the visitors scoreless for the final 42:06 of play and needed just two second half goals to ensure their victory. 

Simmons returns to action tomorrow when it heads to Weston, Mass. to take on Regis College (Mass.) in a 1:00 p.m. match, while the Blue Jays host Albertus Magnus College on April 12 at 4:00 p.m.
