Bowers Named GNAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

WINTRHOP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Kate Bowers (Belchertown, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of March 13-19, it was announced today by the league.

WINTRHOP, Mass. – Simmons College's Kate Bowers (Belchertown, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the week of March 13-19, it was announced today by the league. 

The first year tallied three points, including a career-high two goals to go with an assist in addition to picking up three ground balls and causing a turnover in a 16-11 victory over host Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the Sharks' only match of the week on March 18. 

The attacker has started all five matches she's played in this season for Simmons and is tied for the team lead with six assists, while ranking third among GNAC leaders. A graduate of Belchertown High School, Bowers ranks fifth on the team and leads all conference rookies with nine points, including three goals, while placing fifth on the squad with eight ground balls. She is the third-most accurate shooter for the Sharks with a .500 shot percentage. Bowers has notched at least one point in four of five contests, including multiple points on two occasions and registered a career-best four assists on March 7 vs. New England College. 

The Sharks have won two straight games and are currently 2-3 on the season. The team will be in action again on Tuesday, March 21 when it hosts Curry College at Daly Field for a 7:00 p.m. match.
