Malone Oliver Leads Lacrosse over Albertus Magnus, 22-2, on Senior Day

BOSTON, Mass. ? Senior midfielder Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I.) tallied a career-high seven points, including three goals as one of 11 scorers for the Simmons College women?s lacrosse team in a 22-2 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 1-10 and 0-7.

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I.) tallied a career-high seven points, including three goals as one of 11 scorers for the Simmons College women's lacrosse team in a 22-2 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 1-10 and 0-7. 

Simmons dominated the draw, winning 23 of 25 draw controls, while owning a 34-12 shot advantage for the match. 

Malone Oliver's four assists were also a career-best for the Sharks. She added a pair of draw controls as well. Senior Alexa Faria (Cumberland, R.I.) racked up a career-high four points on two goals and two assists to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover, while classmate Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) netted three goals in addition to an assist, eight draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover. Simmons recognized its three seniors in addition to the team's senior manager, Amber Verrill, following the contest. 

First year attacker Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) also contributed for the Sharks with three goals and two assists, while classmates Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) and Kaleigh Joyce (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Jolene Potter (Readfield, Maine) each netted a pair of goals on the day. Sophomore midfielder Gabrielle Klane (Franklin, Mass.) also chipped in with an assist and game-highs of four ground balls and four caused turnovers.  First year goalie Kenzie Rogers (Bourne, Mass.) earned the win after stopping all three shots she faced in the first half. Sophomore Chyenne Yeager (Indiana, Pa.) turned away three of five shots that she faced in the second stanza for the home team. 

Senior middie Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) tallied a goal and assisted on another for Albertus Magnus to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover, while sophomore attacker Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) found the back of the net as well for the Falcons. Senior Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) drew netminding duties and responded with 11 saves and four groundballs for Albertus Magnus. 

Simmons scored the first 22 goals of the match, including 17 in the first half. The Sharks netted the first four goals in under four minutes to begin the game and had 12 goals with just over 14 minutes remaining in the opening period. 

Joyce netted her first marker of the day with 2:46 left in the first half for her first collegiate score to give Simmons a 16-0 advantage. Classmate Amanda Koshivas (Ipswich, Mass.) also cashed in with her first career goal at the 18:09 mark of the second half for a 20-0 cushion for the Sharks. Junior defender Sara Rademacher (North Haven, Conn.) netted her first marker of the year less than three minutes later on sophomore midfielder Kasey Fries' (Bridgewater, Mass.) second assist of the afternoon. Joyce's second tally was the final score of the day for Simmons, coming with 12:59 to go in the contest. Jassil put the Falcons on the board with her 12th goal of the year on an assist from junior attacker Fekianne Charles (Bridgeport, Conn.) at the 7:11 mark. Jassil later found Luna for the last score of the day coming with 4:26 remaining in the match. 

The Sharks will be in action again on Tuesday, April 26 when they host GNAC foe Norwich University on Winsor Field at 7:00 p.m., while Albertus Magnus travels to Newton, Mass. on the same day to take on Lasell College at 4:00 p.m.
