Sheehan Tallies Seven in Sharks Victory Over Falcons

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse scored 18 seconds into the first half and never looked back as the Sharks defeated the Albertus Magnus Falcons, 25-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) lead all Sharks with seven goals, a season high. 

NORTHFIELD, Vt.?Sophomore midfielder Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) scored with just over two minutes to play to bring the Sharks to within two but the #3 Norwich University Cadets edged the #6 Sharks 11-9 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinal round on Tuesday evening.

The Sharks took a 7-0 lead in the opening five minutes, as Sheehan tallied three and Amber Verrill (Windham, Maine), Becca Shea (Quincy, Mass.), Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) and Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) each scored for the Sharks.

 

Albertus Magnus broke up the shutout at 20:12 as Hallie Alteri won the draw and beat Sharks goalkeeper Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) down low. Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I.) scored for the Sharks less than a minute later to set off an eight-goal run. Gilbert picked up her second and third goals, Malone Oliver tallied again and Oliveri beat Falcons netminder Erika Blechert in the top left corner before Sheehan scored a natural hatrick.

 

Miranda Jassil scored for the Falcons with just over five minutes to play in the half but the Sharks Ali Stonehouse (Keene, N.H.), Sheehan, Verrill and Shea put the Sharks up 20-2 as time expired.

 

It was all Simmons in the second half, as Gilbert scored just 12 seconds into the second stanza followed by Malone Oliver, Stonehouse, and two by Oliveri. The Sharks held a 46-2 advantage in shots and a 22-5 advantage in draw controls.

 

With the win, Simmons moves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC, while the Falcons fall to 0-3, 0-3 GNAC. The Sharks face Fenway and GNAC rival Emmanuel on Tue. March 25 at 7:00 PM. The Falcons host the University of Saint Joseph on Mar. 24 in more GNAC action.
