BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse opened Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 22-0 shutout of the Anna Maria College AMCATS. The Sharks (2-1, 1-0 GNAC) outshot the visitors 41-4 and 12 different Sharks scored at least one goal.

Simmons opened the floodgates early as Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) beat AMCATS goaltender Shannon Donovan twice in the opening minute and a half of play. Sophomore Alexia Malone Oliver (Bristol, R.I) added her first of three off a stellar pass from Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) and Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) handled another feed from Oliveri for a Sharks 4-0 lead.

Junior Ali Stonehouse (Keene, N.H.) added back-to-back goals, while Oliveri, Gilbert, Malone Oliver all tallied a minute apart to increase the Sharks lead to 10. Sara Rademacher (North Haven, Conn.) scored her first two career goals and Amber Verrill (Windham, Maine) played her second game on the field and found the back of the net for her first career goal at 14:07 in the first half.

Simmons senior Becca Shea (Quincy, Mass.) scored three goals in the closing minutes of the first half, while first year Allie McDevitt (Greenland, N.H.) scored her first collegiate goal with 32 seconds remaining the first half.

Ahead 20-0 heading into the second half, the Sharks tallied just twice as senior Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Symonne Fontenot (Portsmouth, N.H.) each scored their first goals of the 2014 season.

Sharks netminder Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) picked up her second win of the year and first shutout, making all three saves. Donovan made seven saves in the loss. Simmons held a 19-4 advantage in draw controls and 9-7 advantage in ground balls.

The Sharks continue GNAC play on Tuesday, Mar. 18 at Mount Ida at 4:00 PM. The AMCATS travel to Lasell on the same date for a 3:30 PM start.
