Sharks Fall to Emerson, 16-8

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse fell to the visiting Emerson College Lyons 16-8 in non-conference action Tuesday evening. The Sharks (1-1) were led by sophomore Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.), who posted four goals and junior Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) who added three. Emerson?s Meredith Weber score a game-high five goals for the Lyons.

PAXTON, Mass. -- Simmons freshman Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored a season high five goals as the Sharks rolled to a 20-4 victory over the Anna Maria AMCATS in Great Northeast Athletic Conference lacrosse action Thursday afternoon.

The Sharks (1-1) were led by sophomore Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.), who posted four goals and junior Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.) who added three. Emerson's Meredith Weber score a game-high five goals for the Lyons.

 

Emerson took an early two-goal lead off an unassisted goal by Tayllar Righini and a free position goal by Kate Lemire. The Sharks were given a yellow card and the Lyons converted as Lemire fed Weber for the tally. Gilbert broke up the shutout with unassisted goal with 23:05 to play before Emerson added two for a 5-1 lead.

 

Stephanie Oliveri rolled the crease for her first goal of the game but Emerson added five straight goals to increase their lead, 10-2. With less than two minutes to play in the half, Gilbert was awarded a free position shot and beat Emerson goalkeeper Victoria Kanaris on the left side. With two seconds remaining, Gilbert found the back of the net again to enter halftime down, 10-4.

 

Weber opened the scoring in the second half, beating Sharks netminder Crystal Derosier (Kingston, Mass.) up high. Oliveri tallied again before Kanika Misra scored twice for Emerson. Misra found Lemire in the eight for her third goal of the game and Weber added her fourth for a 15-5 lead. Ashley Sheehan (North Attleboro, Mass.) scored on a free position shot at 11:50 and Oliveri and Gilbert each added a goal in the final ten minutes but the Lyons went on to win, 16-8.

 

Kanaris made 12 saves on 20 shots for the win, while Derosier made 10 saves on 26 shots in the loss. The Sharks held a 14-11 advantage in draw controls and the Lyons held a 27-24 advantage in shots and a 15-6 edge in ground balls.

 

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. at home against Anna Maria in the start of Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
