CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Simmons College crew team placed third at the 32nd Annual Seven Sisters Championship this morning on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass. Wellesley College won the team even with a score of 36 points.
In addition to Simmons and Wellesley, the race featured Bryn Mawr College, Mount Holyoke College and Smith College and spanned three and a half kilometers from the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge through the Boston University Bridge, the Riverside Boathouse of host Simmons and finished just short of the John W. Weeks Bridge.
The Sharks scored 21 points, behind Smith College's total of 25. Mount Holyoke College finished fourth with 16 points, while Bryn Mawr College placed fifth with nine points.
Wellesley's total of 36 points was fueled by victories in both Novice races and the Second Varsity trek.
Senior Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.) was named to the All-Seven Sisters Rowing Team for Simmons along with junior Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.) and first year Isabel Gimlewicz (Camden, Maine).
Wellesley and Mount Holyoke were the only two schools to score in the Second Novice Eight race with the Blue turning in a time of 15:01.1 to earn seven points, while the Lyons picked up five points with a mark of 15:13.9.
Wellesley added to its lead with nine points on a first place showing in the First Novice Eight race, fueled by a time of 13:31.6. The Simmons Novice Eight finished just over 22 seconds later at 13:53.8 for a second-place finish and a seven-point pick-up. The Sharks' shell featured First year stroke Lauren Dolishny followed by classmates Caroline Granitur (Vero Beach, Fla.), Julia Hart (Vineyard Haven, Mass.), Elaine Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore Ally Fecteau (Burlington, Conn.), Meg Lyczak, first year Steffi Gaehde (Brookline, Mass.) first year bow Kaylee Dow and Gimlewicz as the coxswain. Smith and Mount Holyoke finished within two seconds of each other with Smith clocking in at 14:02.5 for five points ahead of Mount Holyoke's mark of 14:04.1, which garnered three points.
Wellesley's Second Varsity Eight continued the winning trend for the Blue, taking the race with a time of 12:53.9 to outpace Smith, which placed second on a time of 13:18.1. Wellesley scored 10 points with the win, while Smith took eight points. Simmons followed with a time of 13:29.7 to finish third for six points with a boat consisting of sophomore stroke Rebecca Ramsey (Jefferson, Mass.), sophomore Emily Saunders (Hebron, Conn.), senior Elizabeth Rea-Wilson (Concord, Mass.), juniors Eleanor Pullan (Northampton, Mass.), Christine Yu (Plainville, Mass.), sophomores Jess Rush (Marion, Mass.), Chloe Feuerstein (Winchester, Mass.) and junior bow Nicole Lee (North Reading, Mass.) and senior coxswain Kaitlin Fierlit (Hamden, Conn.). Bryn Mawr placed fourth with a time of 15:01.5 to collect four points.
Smith (12:25.5) finished the morning with a first-place finish in the First Varsity Eight event, edging Wellesley (12:27.0) by just a second and a half to take 12 points to the Blue's 10-point take. Simmons placed third with a time of 13:04.5 to score eight points. The Sharks' eight boasted Bennett in the stroke seat, first year Samantha Kelsey (Salt Lake City, Utah), Summers, junior Kellie Cann (Needham, Mass.), sophomores Peizhu Pam Qian (Beijing, China), Sabrina Belozerova (Newton, Mass.), Hannah Dike (Leominster, Mass.), senior bow Elsbeth Colson (Everett, Mass.) and senior coxswain Clarice Johnson (Norwell, Mass.). Mount Holyoke coming in just over three seconds later to earn six points on a mark of 13:07.7. Bryn Mawr closed out the day with a time of 13:28.6 to score four points with a fifth place finish.
