Six From Crew Named to CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Team
June 04, 2018BOSTON, Mass. --Simmons College senior Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.), junior Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.) and sophomores Hannah Dike (Leominster, Mass.), Ally Fecteau (Burlington, Conn.), Peizhu Pam Qian (Beijing, China/Developing Virtue Secondary Girls School (Calif.)), and Rebecca Ramsey (Jefferson, Mass.) were named to the 2018 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athlete Team, it was announced by the organization. -
10 from Crew Named to 2018 NIRC All-Academic Team
May 24, 2018WORCESTER, Mass. – The National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) has announced the recipients of the regatta’s postseason awards. Bates College Head Coach, Peter Steenstra, was named NIRC Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year by his peers. In addition, 318 student-athletes were honored with NIRC All-Academic accolades, including 10 Simmons rowers.

Crew First Varsity Eight Finishes Second in Third Final at National Invitational Rowing Championship
May 11, 2018WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Simmons College First Varsity Eight crew squad placed second in the Third Final of the National Invitational Rowing Championship today on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The Sharks Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in their Third Final race. The regatta was the last competition of the 2017-18 season for the crew team and the final event for Simmons Athletics for the season.

Bennett and Kelsey Named to NEWMAC Rowing All-Conference Team
May 10, 2018WESTWOOD, Mass. – Simmons College’s Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.) and Samantha Kelsey (Salt Lake City, Utah) were both named to the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference All-Conference Rowing Team, it was announced by the league.

From Ukraine to Boston; Kurmakov is Simmons Crew
November 15, 2017For Nikolay Kurmakov, a typical day begins by waking up at 4:00 a.m. to meet the Simmons College women’s crew team at the Riverside Boat Club for practice a little over an hour later. The rest of the day, or during any free time, is filled with tedious, but necessary tasks such as painting the oars, ordering the equipment, loading the boats in and out of storage, as well as making minor repairs on the boats. Most rowing programs have a number of people that they turn to in order to complete these assignments. Simmons College in Boston, however, is able to count on their head coach Nikolay Kurmakov and his irreplaceable work ethic to take on these duties as one individual.
