Crew's 2V8 Places Second at Clark Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Simmons College crew team's Second Varsity Eight placed second to lead the program at this morning's Clark Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The Sharks second eight clocked in at 7:36.5 on the 2,000-meter course to finish second to the University of Vermont's mark of 7:31.3. Sophomore Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.) was in the stroke seat for Simmons ahead of first year coxswain Ally Fecteau (Burlington, Conn.). Junior Elizabeth Rea-Wilson (Concord, Mass.) was slotted in the seventh seat, followed by sophomore Kellie Cann (Needham, Mass.), first years Rebecca Ramsey (Jefferson, Mass.), Brianna Patterson (Pelham, N.H.), Olivia Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.), Emily Saunders (Hebron, Conn.) and sophomore Captain Nicole Lee (North Reading, Mass.) in the bow seat.

The Simmons First Varsity Eight finished third in its respective race with a time of 7:24.8, while Vermont (7:08.7) just edged out Mount Holyoke College (7:09.0) for the victory. Junior Phoebe Knox (Scituate, Mass.) led the way for the Sharks in the stroke seat, while first year Kate Krawczuk (Harrisburg, Pa.) followed in the seventh seat. Senior Karina Bercan (Derry, N.H.) followed and junior Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.) along with sophomore Eleanor Pullan (Northampton, Mass.) rowed from the middle ahead of junior Captain Alexa Frongillo (Franklin, Mass.), first year Sabrina Belozerova (Newton, Mass.) and graduate student Jess Randolph (Concord, N.C) in the bow seat. Junior Clarice Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) dictated the pace from the coxswain perch.

The Sharks closed out the morning with a second-place effort in the Third Varsity Eight race with a time of 8:08.8 to finish behind Vermont's 'A' squad's mark of 7:40.9. First year Hannah Dike (Leominster, Mass.) pulled from the stroke position, followed by first year Jess Rush (Marion, Mass.), sophomore Christine Yu (Plainville, Mass.), first years Sarah Walsh (Holbrook, Mass.), Lily Pennington (Watertown, Mass.), Kyetesie Heller (Sharon, Mass.), Chloe Feuerstein (Winchester, Mass.) and Sarah MacEachen (Hollis, N.H.). Sophomore Melissa Morton (Somers, Conn.) competed as the team's coxswain.

Simmons returns to the water on Saturday, April 15 when it returns to Lake Quinsigamond for the Barbara Donahue Cup.
