Crew Finishes 22nd at 52nd Head of the Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE/BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College crew team placed 22nd in the women's collegiate eight race at the 52nd Head of the Charles Regatta this afternoon on the Charles River in Cambridge and Boston, Mass.

CAMBRIDGE/BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College crew team placed 22nd in the women's collegiate eight race at the 52nd Head of the Charles Regatta this afternoon on the Charles River in Cambridge and Boston, Mass. 

The Sharks turned in a time of 20:23.955 to finish just over 10 seconds behind Middlebury College and just under 21 seconds ahead of University of Illinois. Wesleyan University's crew won the race with a mark of 18:04.538. 

The Simmons Eight consisted of junior bow Phoebe Knox (Scituate, Mass.), followed by classmate Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.) in the seventh seat, sophomores Kellie Cann (Needham, Mass.) and Madison Summers (Hudson, N.H.), juniors Erin Lilienthal (Niantic, Conn.) and Alexa Frongillo (Franklin, Mass.) and first year Sabrina Belozerova (Newton, Mass.), followed by graduate student Jess Randolph (Concord, N.C.) in the stroke seat, while junior coxswain Clarice Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) directed the boat. 

The Sharks got out to a quick start, sitting in 17th place as they passed their home boathouse at Riverside with a time of 4:42.964 and slipped to 20th as they most past Weld at 11:12.506. Simmons sat in 21st place at the CBC mark with a time of 17:03.459, before settling in at 22nd place.

The Sharks will get on the water again on Sunday, October 30 when they compete in the Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Smith College in Northampton, Mass.
