BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women's basketball team fell to visiting Albertus Magnus College, 57-46, this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks fall to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in GNAC play, while the Falcons win their sixth straight to improve to 12-6 and 4-2.
The Albertus Magnus defense forced Simmons into 28 turnovers and held it to just 34% (18-53) from the field.
Sophomore forward Presley Silva (Wilmington, Mass.) led the Sharks with eight points on 4-7 from the floor and added seven boards, two assists and a pair of steals. Senior forward Nicole Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) scored seven points, pulled down nine rebounds, came up with three steals and handed out an assist. Junior forward Ashley McAdams (Freeport, N.Y.)netted six points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out an assist.
Bolden added four steals for the Falcons, while senior forward Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) contributed with 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of blocks. First year guard Deja Ward (Middletown, Conn.) chipped in with nine points, a game-high six assists and five steals to go with a rebound.
Simmons held Albertus Magnus scoreless for almost the final six minutes of the opening quarter before senior point guard Olivia Sutherland (Wallingford, Conn.) drained a three-pointer with 14 seconds left in the period to make it 10-9 after one quarter of play. The trey ignited a 9-0 run for the visitors as the Falcons scored the first six points of the second quarter to take a 15-10 lead, while holding the Sharks without a point over the first 3:29 of the period. Simmons responded with five unanswered points, capped by a jumper from senior guard Gracie Rolfe (Newton, Mass.), to knot the contest at 15-15 with 3:43 showing in the second period. Albertus Magnus closed out the half on an 8-4 run to take a 23-19 margin into the intermission.
The Falcons denied the home team a point over the first 5:11 of the third quarter as part of a 13-2 stretch, including four points from Bolden, that saw them take a 36-21 advantage with 1:48 to play in the period. Junior guard Elli Sola (New Britain, Conn.) later drilled a three-pointer to give Albertus Magnus its largest lead of the day at 39-23 with 41 seconds showing on the clock. The Falcons took a 41-27 lead into the final quarter.

First year guard Francesca Corsinetti (Johnston, R.I.) later hit a jump shot for the Sharks to cut the deficit to 43-31 at 7:08, but Bolden later hit a jumper of her own to give Albertus Magnus a 49-33 cushion with 4:25 left in the game. Simmons ripped off eight straight points, capped by a fastbreak lay-up from Silva, to pull the Sharks to within 49-41 with 2:19 remaining in the contest. Corsinetti's trey with 40 seconds left in the period kept it an eight-point game for Simmons, but two late free throws from Ward gave the Falcons a 57-46 win.
Simmons returns to action on Tuesday, February 2 when it hosts Emerson College at Moore Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m., while Albertus Magnus hosts Anna Maria College on the same night at 7:00 p.m.
