  • Coach Price Speaks at Alma Matter

    Simmons Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Tony Price addressed the Senior Capping and Fall Honors Convocation at Worcester State College on Friday night. The Senior Capping ceremony is held each fall at WSC to formally recognize the senior class, mark the beginning of the academic year, and celebrate WSC scholarship recipients.

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Basketball 2008-09 Season In Review

    Simmons Basketball finished an impressive and historic 2008-09 season, in which they established a new high for second-most wins in a season with an overall record of 17-8, one shy of the most wins (18), and a Great Northeast Athletic Conference record of 8-4. The Sharks made a tremendous end of the season push, putting together a string of six consecutive victories, including a huge win on the road against Johnson & Wales after trailing by double digits at the half. The Sharks would then go 2-2 over the last 2 weeks of the season to make it to the GNAC Tournament as the sixth seed. Simmons ended their postseason run with a loss to Norwich University in the GNAC Quarterfinals on the road.
  • Two Athletes Receive Honor Roll Mention in Final Week of Season

    Simmons Basketball junior Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) and Swimming sophomore Chennelle Jackson (Dorchester, Mass.) received Great Northeast Athletic Conference honor roll mention for their efforts in the last week of winter competition.
  • Basketball Honored with Two GNAC All-Conference Awards

    Simmons Basketball received two post-season accolades from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the GNAC announced on Thursday. Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) was selected to the All-Conference First Team, and junior forward Aubree Giarrosso was selected to the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team. Fox is the third player in the program’s history to earn first-team All-GNAC honors (Jacqueline Bolis 2003-04, Kristen Lucek 2005-06).
  • Simmons Falls to Norwich in Home Finale, 67-60

    Senior Kayleigh Shappy and juniors Ally Daniels and Erica Rate combined for 34 points to lead Norwich past Simmons, 67-60 in its last regular season game Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks end the regular season 17-8, GNAC 8-4, while the Cadets finish 17-6, GNAC 10-2.
  • Sharks Take Bite out of Saint Joseph's Maine, 64-51

    Simmons Basketball defeated Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday evening. With the win, Simmons advances to 17-7 overall, 8-3 GNAC, while Saint Joseph’s falls to 12-12 overall, 5-6 GNAC.
  • Simmons Drops Contest to Rivier, 72-61

    Simmons Basketball lost to Great Northeast Athletic Conference competition Rivier College at home today, 72-61. The Sharks struck first with a jumper by junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.), but were unable to take back the lead during the remainder of the game, despite coming within striking distance several times during both halves. With the loss, Simmons ends their 6-game win streak and falls to 16-7 overall, 7-3 GNAC; the Raiders advance to 15-8, 7-4 GNAC.
  • Basketball Triumphs in Come-From-Behind Win at Johnson & Wales, 72-67

    Simmons Basketball extended their winning streak to six games on Tuesday evening with a win over conference foe Johnson & Wales, 72-67, tying the program record for most consecutive wins in a season (1995-96), and tying the program record for second-most wins in a season (16 wins in 2002-03).
  • Basketball Romps to Win Over Lasell, 66-45

    Simmons Basketball won their matchup against Lasell College on Saturday, 66-45, extending their conference winning streak to four games, and clinched a spot in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament with a 6-2 GNAC record, 15-6 overall. With the loss, the Lazers fall to 6-15 overall, 3-5 GNAC.
  • Basketball Digs Deep for Overtime Win at SJC, 63-56

    Simmons College picked up a hard-fought win on the road last night over conference foe Saint Joseph College of Connecticut, 63-56, in overtime. With the win, the Sharks improved to 14-6 on the year and 5-2 in GNAC play, while the Blue Jays fall to 3-17 on the year and 1-7 GNAC.
  • Basketball’s Fox Named NEWBA Player of the Week

    Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) was named Player of the Week by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) for the week of January 26-February 1. This marks the first time a Simmons College Basketball athlete has ever received this award from NEWBA.

    Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) scored 27 points and totaled 9 rebounds in Simmons Basketball’s win over Albertus Magnus on Saturday, 81-62. With the victory, Simmons advances to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, while Albertus Magnus falls to 6-11 overall, 1-6 GNAC.

    Simmons Basketball walked away with a win over conference foe Pine Manor College on Thursday night, 69-52, in front of a home crowd at the Holmes Sports and Fitness Center. With the win, the Sharks advance to 12-6 overall, 3-2 GNAC; the Gators fall to 2-15 overall, 0-6 GNAC.
  • Simmons Strikes Eastern Nazarene, 55-38

    Senior Lauren Kreckie (Braintree, Mass.) grabbed nine steals in Tuesday’s 55-38 win over Eastern Nazarene, to take the third spot overall for single-game steals. Jackie Bolis ’04 currently holds the first and second place spots with two 10-steal games for the Sharks in 2002. With the win, the Sharks improve to 11-6 overall, 2-2 GNAC; the Crusaders fall to 3-14 overall.
  • Simmons Defeats Mount Ida, 57-37

    Junior Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 14 points, while junior guard Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Lauren Kreckie (Braintree, Mass.) added 13 and 10 points, respectively to lead Simmons to a 57-37 win over Mount Ida Wednesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. Simmons improves to 10-5 (GNAC 2-1), while Mount Ida falls to 4-11 (GNAC 0-4).

    Simmons Basketball Head Coach Tony Price was featured on the front page of the Boston Globe Sports section today. The article illustrates Coach Price’s efforts to create “Passionate Purple” week, in unison with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA). GNAC schools will raise awareness about lupus and collect donations for the LFA during home basketball games from January 17-24.
  • Coach Tony Price Reaches 100th Career Win in Basketball’s Defeat of Suffolk, 53-50

    Simmons Basketball used an 18-0 run in the second half to prevail 53-50 over host Suffolk University on Monday afternoon at Regan Gymnasium. The Sharks improve to 1-1 in the GNAC and 9-5 overall, while Suffolk falls to 2-2 in the GNAC and 8-6 overall. With the victory over Suffolk, Head Coach Tony Price reached his 100th career win midway through the ninth year at the helm of Simmons’ Basketball program.

  • Simmons Basketball Supports Fight Against Lupus, Celebrates GNAC 'Passionate Purple' Week

    Simmons College Athletics has joined the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in supporting Passionate Purple Week, January 17-24. Select women’s basketball games during the week will raise funds for the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA). Come cheer us on as we play Emmanuel College this Saturday at 1:00pm, as well as our game vs. Mount Ida College on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:00pm.

This award is given annually in recognition of the desire to promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior and the highest ideals of respect, caring, civility, fairness, honesty, integrity and responsibility as a Division III student-athlete.
