    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced Wednesday that Lauren Kreckie (Braintree, Mass.), a three-year letterwinner and co-captain of the Simmons College basketball program has been named a recipient of the 2008 GNAC Sportsmanship Award. The GNAC Sportsmanship Award honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

    While her career at Simmons may be over, senior basketball player Nikki Cohen is hoping that basketball won't stop being a major part of her life. Cohen, who will graduate in May, has been invited to a professional tryout in New England this summer in hopes of catching someone's eye and earning a contract, likely with a European team.

But in a hostile environment the girls banded together under top assistant Darryl Simpson, and were able to clinch a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament berth with a 90-85 win over host Rivier.

Women's basketball programs across the country, at all divisions, including every team in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference celebrated a Think Pink night, to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer Research.

    The Simmons College basketball team got its first win of the new year, and it's fourth of the season Monday night with an 84-52 runaway win at Mitchell College. Six Sharks scored in double figures led by freshman Morgan Johnson (Waterbury, Conn.) who had 17 points, and four steals.
