Brook Capello will begin her eighth season at the helm of the Simmons softball team after joining the Sharks in the spring of 2016 following a five-year stint as the Head Coach at Newbury College. 

In Capello’s 13-year career as a head coach, she has amassed an overall record of 213-224-1, which includes a 137-122-1 mark at Simmons and is the second winningest head coach in program history. She earned her 100th career victory in her second year at Simmons, following a 4-3 victory over Emerson College on March 6, 2017. Five years later, she picked her 100th career win at Simmons in a 19-1 victory over Anna Maria College on April 9, 2022. In 2023, Capello earned her 200th career coaching win following a double-header sweep of Rivier University on April 8. 

Under Capello’s leadership and tutelage, she has recorded six 20-plus win seasons, including a 26-win campaign in 2022 and has received Coach of the Year recognition twice (2013 and 2019). Additionally, she has taken four teams to their respective conference championship tournaments, including reaching the title game in 2013 and 2019, before winning her first conference title in 2023. 

Throughout her coaching career, Capello has coached a total of 36 All-Conference recipients – 12 first team, 11 second team, seven third team and five honorable mention – as well as a Player of the Year (Sheri Liggiero, 2016), a two-time Pitcher of the Year recipient (Maddie Castigliego, 2022, 2023) and a Rookie of the Year (Maddie Castigliego, 2019). Seven players have earned NFCA All-Region honors, while a pair have received national recognition (Sheri Liggiero, 2016; Maddie Castigliego, 2023). In addition, she is well respected amongst the softball coaching circuit many of her former players have gone to become collegiate coaches themselves, including Rivier University's Head Coach Noelle Sass. 

Away from the diamond, Capello’s teams have all excelled in the classroom with three teams earning NFCA Top-10 Team GPA accolades. Additionally, 32 of her players have received NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors, including 18 multiple year winners.

In addition to her coaching duties, Capello uses her knowledge and expertise in recruiting, serving as the liaison between athletics and the admissions office. Prior to becoming the department’s admissions liaison, she oversaw the department’s compliance efforts. Capello also  served on the NCAA softball Regional Advisory Committee for both the NECC and GNAC.

Outside of Simmons, Capello coaches with the well-respected Polar Crush organization and is the head coach of the program’s Elite Team. She also recently served as the head coach of the Polar Crush Gold National Team, which travels across the country.

A 2006 graduate of Stonehill College, Capello graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in criminology before earning her Master’s in social work from Boston College in 2010.
