Simmons University's Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) has been named to the 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Del Vacchio earned a spot as a member of the NCAA Division III District 1 Softball First Team.

The 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.

Del Vacchio becomes the first Shark to earn Academic All-District® honors since former soccer player Cíara Forde was tabbed in 2018. Del Vacchio graduated Simmons with a career cumulative grade point average of 3.69 as a Web Design & Development major and a Graphic Design minor, with a perfect 4.0 in her final semester.

The recent graduate finished her decorated career with 133 starts in 134 games played. Del Vacchio collected 163 hits, scored 113 runs and swiped 19 bases while driving in 71 RBI, as a career leadoff hitter. She slashed .399/.484/.555 during her time as a Shark and was off to a red hot start before the 2020 season was abruptly ended by COVID-19. In just 10 games, Del Vacchio had 16 hits, 9 runs and 7 RBI along with 2 stolen bases. Following the team’s Spring Training trip, Del Vacchio was batting .457 with a .500 on base percentage and .543 slugging percentage.

During her career as a Shark, Del Vacchio has been recognized as a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete twice as well as being named a two-time NFCA All-Region Selection. She was named to the Northeast All-Region Second Team as a second baseman during her sophomore campaign and to the New England All-Region Third Team as an outfielder following her junior season. In addition, Del Vacchio was a Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference selection each of her three full seasons at Simmons.
