BOSTON, Mass. -- The Simmons College softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Suffolk University, losing the first game, 10-1, before falling the second contest, 14-0, this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks conclude their regular season with an overall record of 21-17, including 15-9 in league play, while the Rams win their 10th straight to up their record to 29-7 and 22-2. Both teams return to action on Thursday, May 3 when they compete in the GNAC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.

Sophomores Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) and Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) both had a pair of hits and a double each to lead Simmons.

Senior catcher Delaney Sylvester (Worcester, Mass.) rapped out three hits to become Suffolk University softball's career hit leader, while her younger sister, Payton tossed her first collegiate no-hitter to lead the Rams. 

Delaney Sylvester went into the day two hits shy of tying the former Suffolk record of 227 hits held by Jess Ferreira (2006-09). She doubled and singled in the opening contest to tie the mark, before breaking the standard in her final at-bat with a two-run double for her 228th career base knock coming in the top of the fifth of the second game. 

Payton Sylvester retired the first 13 batters she faced in game two, before allowing a walk with one out in the fifth on a full count. She regrouped and induced a ground out and a called strike out to notch her first collegiate no-hitter in five complete innings and improve to 9-3 on the season. She also recorded five strikeouts. 

Delaney Sylvester was 3-7 on the day with a pair of doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored, while Payton Sylvester rapped out four hits in seven at-bats and drove in four runs to go with three runs scored. First year Grace Boehler (Freetown, Mass.) was 3-5 with three runs batted in and five runs scored for the Rams.  

Suffolk did all of its scoring in two innings of the opening contest with four runs in the second and six more in the third. Sophomore outfielder Ashley Zulla (Columbus, N.J.) knocked in a run with a double, while graduate student Sydney Littlefield (Methuen, Mass.), senior infielder Madison Eucalitto (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Payton Sylvester all produced with an RBI single in the frame. The Rams took a 10-0 lead after the third inning to put the game out of reach. Suffolk batted around in the frame as Delaney Sylvester drove in a run with a double in the inning and was joined by Payton Sylvester, junior McKenzie McGrath (Exeter, N.H.) and Boehler with run-producing singles apiece. 

The Sharks got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-1. First year shortstop Marissa Santoro (Franklin, Mass.) reached on an error and advanced to third on the overthrow. Classmate Sydney DeVogt (Exeter, N.H.) plated Santoro with a sacrifice fly to left field. 

Simmons threatened in the first three innings when it loaded the bases in the first, put runners on second and third in the second and a runner on third in the third frame, but came up empty handed in each inning. Del Vacchio nearly hit her sixth home run of the year with a ball that tattooed the top of the center field fence for a double in the bottom of the first. Senior Ali Yamakaitis (Avenel, N.J.) (9-3) earned the victory for Suffolk, allowing one unearned run on six hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Senior Juliet Nelson (Cumberland, R.I.) suffered the loss for the Sharks, giving up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits to go with two strikeouts. 

The Rams scored a run in the top of the first and four more in the second for all the runs they would need in the game to support Payton Sylvester. Payton Sylvester led off the second game with a single to right and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. Eucalitto struck an RBI single and Payton Sylvester knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly to pace Suffolk's second frame. Suffolk also took advantage of two errors and a wild pitch in the inning to take a 5-0 margin. 

The Rams sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth and saw seven of them score to give Suffolk a commanding 12-0 lead. Boehler came through with a two-run single, while Payton Sylvester and McGrath each knocked in a run with a single. Delaney Sylvester capped the day's scoring with her historic two-run double in the fifth inning. Payton Sylvester improved to 9-3 from the circle. 

First year first base Hailey Yabroudy (Amherst, N.J.) was the only baserunner in game two for the Sharks after her bases on balls in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore right-handed starter Alex Soqui (Acushnet, Mass.) (3-7) was saddled with the loss for Simmons, allowing five runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk.
