  • Softball's Del Vacchio and Hennessey Named to NFCA All-Region Team

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Simmons College softball player Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region Second Team, while Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) was selected to the Third Team, it was announced today by the NFCA.

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) and Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) were both named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball All-Conference First Team, while Juliet Nelson (Cumberland, R.I.) was selected to the Second Team and Ivy Vann (Bend, Ore.) was tabbed to the Third Team, it was announced by the league.

    EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Dom Ortiz (Lawrence, Mass.) knocked in a pair of runs and senior starting pitcher Juliet Nelson (Cumberland, R.I.) allowed just one run on five hits to lead the number three seed Simmons College softball team over fourth-seeded Saint Joseph's College (Maine), 4-1, today in an elimination game in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals at Memorial Park in East Boston, Mass. The Sharks improve to 22-18 on the season, while the Monks fall to 20-19. Simmons advances to play the winner of fifth-seeded Albertus Magnus College and number seven seed Emmanuel College today at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, while Saint Joseph's season comes to an end. The win was the first in the GNAC Semifinals for the Sharks since 2014.
  • Softball's Season Comes to End with 6-3 Loss to Emmanuel at GNAC Tournament

    EAST BOSTON, Mass. -- First year first base Hailey Yabroudy (Amherst, N.H.) doubled and drove in a run to lead the number three seed Simmons College softball team in a 6-3 loss to seventh-seeded Emmanuel College (Mass.) in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Semifinals this evening at Memorial Park in East Boston, Mass. The Sharks finish their season at 22-19 for their highest win total since 2014. The Saints have won 13 of their last 15 games and improve to 25-17 on the season and will face top-seeded Suffolk University tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in an elimination game at Memorial Park. The winner will face undefeated number two seed Johnson & Wales University at 12:30 p.m.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- First year left fielder Ivy Vann (Bend, Ore.) hit a home run and tripled to lead the third-seeded Simmons College softball team in an 8-3 loss to seventh-seeded Emmanuel College (Mass.) this afternoon in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at Scotts Miracle-Gro Field on the campus of second-seeded Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. The Sharks fall to 21-18 on the season, while the Saints have won 11 of their last 12 games and improve to 23-16. 
  • Softball Swept by Suffolk, 10-1, 14-0

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The Simmons College softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Suffolk University, losing the first game, 10-1, before falling the second contest, 14-0, this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks conclude their regular season with an overall record of 21-17, including 15-9 in league play, while the Rams win their 10th straight to up their record to 29-7 and 22-2. Both teams return to action on Thursday, May 3 when they compete in the GNAC Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.

    PAXTON, Mass. -- Sophomores Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) and Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) were two of 10 batters with multiple hits for the Simmons College softball team in a doubleheader sweep over host Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action today at AMC Softball Field in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks won game one, 18-2, and the nightcap, 14-10, to win their sixth straight games and improve to 21-15 and 15-7 in league play, while the AMCATS finish their season at 2-36 and 0-24.
  • Softball Sweeps Rivier, 10-2, 8-7, to Clinch GNAC Playoff Spot

    BOSTON, Mass. – Five different players knocked in multiple runs to lead the Simmons College softball team to a double-header sweep over visiting Rivier University, winning the first game, 10-2, before taking the nightcap, 8-7, this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their fourth straight to improve to 19-15, including 13-7 in league play, and clinch a spot in the upcoming GNAC Championship Tournament. The Simmons win total is its highest since the team won 27 games in 2014. The Raiders fall to 11-27 and 6-16.

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- First year left fielder Ivy Vann (Bend, Ore.) collected five hits, including three extra-base hits and junior catcher Taylor LeBrun (Milford, Mass.) doubled twice and knocked in three runs to lead the Simmons softball team to a doubleheader sweep over host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), winning the first game, 8-2, before taking game two, 6-0, this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action in a twinbill played at the Shea Softball Complex on the campus of Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks improve to 17-15 overall and 11-7 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 19-11 and 11-5.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Simmons College softball team was swept by host Johnson & Wales University, falling in the opening game, 11-0, and the second contest, 6-0, this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex in Providence, R.I. The Sharks fall to 15-15 overall and 9-7 in league play, while the Wildcats win their fourth straight to improve to 21-10 and 18-2.

The Sharks fall to 15-13 on the season, while the Engineers run their win streak to 16 straight to improve to 25-4-1.

    AUBURNDALE, Mass. -- Sophomore Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) collected five extra-base hits and knocked in three runs, while senior Juliet Nelson (Cumberland, R.I.) threw a complete game shutout to lead the Simmons College softball team to a split with host Lasell College this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Taylor Field in Auburndale, Mass. The Sharks took the opener, 10-0, in five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule, before bowing in the nightcap, 5-4. Simmons game one victory gave it eight straight wins for its longest success streak since 2011 and the Sharks have now won 12 of their last 14 and own an overall record of 15-11 and 9-5 in league play, while the Lasers are 5-17 and 3-7.

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College softball team scored four times to walk off with a game two 9-8 victory to follow an 11-5 win in the opener to earn a sweep over visiting Norwich University this evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks have won seven straight and 11 of their last 12 to improve to 14-10 overall and 8-4 in league play, while the Cadets fall to 5-9 and 3-7.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) collected five hits and scored six runs, while classmate Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) knocked in three runs with a double and a triple to lead the Simmons College softball team to a sweep over visiting Saint Joseph’s College (Maine), 4-3, 8-4, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader action today at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks have won five straight games and nine of their last 10 to improve to 12-10 overall and 6-4 in league play, while the Monks fall to 5-13 and 1-5. The win streak is the longest for the Fenway school since a seven-game success string in 2014. 
  • Power and Pitching Propel Softball to Sweep of Regis (Mass.), 14-1, 5-1

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College softball offense smacked 11 extra base hits, including three home runs and the pitching allowed just one earned run in a doubleheader sweep of host Regis (Mass.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this afternoon at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks won the opener, 14-1, before taking the second contest, 5-1. Simmons has won seven of their last eight and improve to 10-10 overall and 4-4 in league play, while the Pride fall to 4-8 and 0-4. Regis was the home team, but the games were moved to Daly Field due to unplayable conditions in Weston, Mass.

    BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College softball team dropped the first game of a double-header, 8-4, before rebounding to win the nightcap, 5-1, to split with Mount Ida College this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are now 8-10 overall, including 2-4 in league play, while the Mustangs are now 3-11 and 1-3.

The Sharks win their fourth straight to improve to 7-9 on the season, while the Dutchwomen fall to 2-10.

     NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Simmons College softball team saw six players register multiple hits on the day, but fell in both games of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader to host Albertus Magnus College, dropping the opener, 7-4, before falling in the nightcap, 9-1, this afternoon at the Shea Complex in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks fall to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Falcons improve to 9-4 and 4-0.

The Saints came back to win the opening game, 6-4. The Sharks are now 3-7 overall and 1-1 in league play, while Emmanuel is 6-5 and 1-1.
