The Sharks conclude the campaign with a 15-25 mark, while the Monks improve to 22-16.

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The eighth-seeded Simmons College softball team allowed at least one run in all but one inning as the number four seed Albertus Magnus College came away with a 9-0 victory in the second round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship tournament this afternoon at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex in Providence, R.I. on the campus of host Johnson & Wales University. The game was halted after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. The Sharks fall to 15-24 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 28-13.

    WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - First year relief pitcher Bridget Garach (West Hartford, Conn.) threw four innings of two-hit ball and first year second baseman Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) was 3-5 and knocked in the go-ahead run to lead the number eight seed Simmons College softball team to a 6-4 victory over host fifth-seeded University of Saint Joseph in the opening round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament this evening at USJ Softball Field in West Hartford, Conn. The Sharks improve to 15-23 on the season and advance to take on number four seeded Albertus Magnus College on Thursday, May 4 at 3:00 p.m. at tournament host Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. The Blue Jays fall to 20-17.

    NASHUA, N.H. - First year center fielder Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) collected four hits, including a triple and two doubles, to lead the Simmons College softball team in a double-header split with host Rivier University, winning the second game, 6-4, after being edged in the opener, 4-3, this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at the Raider Diamond in Nashua, N.H. The Sharks finish the regular season with a 14-23 overall record, including 9-13 in league play, while the Raiders finish their season at 11-23 and 5-17.

    NEWTON, Mass. - First year Alex Soqui (Achushnet, Mass.) threw a complete game victory and collected a pair of hits to lead the Simmons College softball team to a double-header sweep over host Mount Ida College, winning the first game in eight innings, 2-1, before taking the night cap, 5-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this afternoon in Newton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 13-22 overall and 8-12 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 13-22 and 7-15 to conclude their season. The sweep clinches a playoff spot for Simmons, which will learn its seeding following tomorrow's games.
  • Hennessey Named GNAC Softball Rookie of the Week Again

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Rookie of the Week for the week of April 17-23, it was announced today by the league. The honor marks the second time that Hennessey has received the award this season after having earned top rookie accolades for the week of March 6-12. The award has been earned three times by a Shark this season with first year Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) also winning the honor for the week of April 3-9.

The Sharks are now 11-22 overall and 6-12 in league play, while the Blue Jays are now 18-11 and 11-4.

The Sharks fall to 9-16 overall and 4-8 in the GNAC after becoming the first team to hold JWU under four runs in any conference game this season, while The Wildcats have won 10 of their last 11 games and improve to 20-6 on the year, including a perfect 12-0 in league play.

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College’s Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Co-Rookie of the Week for the week of April 3-9, it was announced today by the league. Del Vacchio shares the honor with University of Saint Joseph’s (Conn.) Amaria Sharon (Tolland, Conn.), who was also named the GNAC Pitcher of the Week. Del Vacchio is the second Simmons player to be honored with the top rookie award, following classmate Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.), who was tabbed for the week of March 6-12.

    BOSTON, Mass. - First year Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) collected five hits and went 4-4 to lead the Sharks to a 5-4 win over Norwich University in the day's second game after dropping the opener, 4-1, to gain a split in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader this afternoon at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. Simmons is now 9-12 overall, including 4-4 in league play, while the Cadets are now 2-12 and 2-4. The twinbill was originally scheduled in Northfield, Vt., but was moved to Boston, while keeping Norwich as the home team.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Bridget Garach (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up her first collegiate win and knocked in two runs to help the Simmons College softball team to a 9-3 victory over visiting Anna Maria College in game one of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The AMCATS earned a 9-0 win in the nightcap over the Sharks. Simmons is now 8-11 overall, including 3-3 in league play, while Anna Maria is now 3-13 and 1-5.

    BOSTON, Mass. – First year Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) doubled in the winning run in the seventh and first year pitcher Alex Soqui (Acushnet, Mass.) allowed just one earned run in a game one, 3-2, victory over visiting Eastern Nazarene College this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Lions held on for a 5-4 victory to gain a split with the Sharks in the nightcap. Simmons is now 7-10 on the season, while Eastern Nazarene is 10-7.

The Sharks improve to 6-9 overall and 2-2 in league play, while the Lasers fall to 3-9 and 0-2.
