Four Sharks Receive 2014 NFCA Division III All-Region Softball Honors

WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Simmons Softball swept the Albertus Magnus Falcons in the opening of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Friday night in West Haven.  Simmons took game one with a 7-1 victory before defeating the Falcons 12-1 in five innings in the nightcap.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Softball swept the visiting Norwich University Cadets 7-2 in game one and 4-1 in game two, improving to 22-8 overall and 15-5 in the conference. The Cadets fall to 16-14, 11-9 GNAC with two days left of the regular season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Simmons Softball received four nods as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced the 2014 NFCA Division III All-Region Softball Teams Saturday.

Senior first baseman Emily Cunningham (Cotuit, Mass.) was named to the Northeast Region Second Team, while junior Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.) and sophomores Mikaela Caracciolo (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Heather White (Westfield, Mass.) were all received Northeast Region Third Team honors. This year's squad is comprised 360 players into three teams in each of the country's eight NCAA regions.

The All-Region teams are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be revealed on May 21 at the NCAA Division III Softball Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.

The Sharks (27-10, 17-5 GNAC) advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship game for the first time in program history on Apr. 27.
