  • Softball Athletes Receive NFCA Scholar-Athlete Award

    Five Softball athletes have been awarded with the 2008-09 Scholar-Athlete award by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. 2009 graduate Keely Brinchman, junior pitcher Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.), junior catcher Emily Nalband (Litchfield, Conn.) and junior shortstop Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) each received the honor, given to student-athletes who have acquired a 3.5 GPA for the year. Sharks freshman Ari King also received the 08-09 award as a senior high school student at Westford Academy.

    The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team.
  • Simmons Softball 2009 Season In Review

    Simmons Softball ended the 2009 season under first year Head Coach Anne Hennigan with a 16-23 overall record, and a 12-12 record in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Sharks began the season with a tough spring training schedule in Orlando, Florida, where they tested themselves against nationally ranked teams to prepare for their GNAC competition. After returning to Boston, the Sharks recorded a strong season and continued to gain momentum toward the postseason, where Simmons, seeded eighth, earned a fourth-place finish in the GNAC Tournament after upending #5 seed Norwich and #3 seed Suffolk in the tournament semifinals.
  • Softball Finishes Fourth in GNAC Tournament

    Simmons Softball closed out their post-season run with a Fourth place finish in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, following an 8-2 loss to #4 seed Pine Manor College in the tournament's afternoon Semifinals.
  • Three Sharks Voted to GNAC Softball All-Conference Team

    Three Simmons Softball players received end of the season All-Conference honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The 2009 All-Conference team honored sophomore shortstop Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) to the Second Team, sophomore pitcher Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) to the Third Team, and senior right fielder Meredith Burr (Londonderry, N.H.) to the Sportsmanship Team.
  • Sharks Blast Cadets in GNAC Tournament First Round, 13-7

    Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) went 2-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in, and Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) was 3-for-5 with three RBIs to help lead eighth-seeded Simmons (15-21) past fifth-seeded Norwich, 13-7, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament game Wednesday afternoon.
  • Simmons Sweeps Rivier; 2-0, 1-0

    Simmons Softball swept a Saturday doubleheader against Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Rivier at home on Senior Day, 2-0, 1-0. The Sharks honored five seniors in the final game of their regular season: Meredith Burr, Kelsey Hasick, Sam Green, Keely Brinchman and Kristen Souza. With the victories, Simmons is now 12-12 GNAC, 14-21 overall.
  • Softball Dominates Wildcats; 6-2, 7-5

    Simmons Softball recorded two wins against Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Johnson and Wales on Friday afternoon. Sophomore pitcher Courteney Collier struck out 15 Wildcat batters on the day, and sophomore Annie Thompson had four home runs. The two sophomores led the Sharks to two victories, 6-2, 7-5. With the wins, Simmons is now 10-12 GNAC, 12-21 overall.
  • Softball Takes Two in Defeat of Bluejays; 6-5, 1-0

    Simmons Softball swept Saint Joseph’s of Connecticut in a Monday afternoon doubleheader at home. The Sharks won game one 6-5, and pulled out a 1-0 win in the evening game. With the win, Simmons is now ranked eight in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a GNAC record of 8-10 GNAC, 10-19 overall.
  • Simmons Splits GNAC Doubleheader with Norwich; 10-7, 4-2

    Simmons Softball split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Norwich on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks endured a 10-7 loss in the opening game, before taking a 4-2 decision in the nightcap.
  • Simmons Softball Splits with Mount Ida; 3-1, 4-0

    Simmons Softball split Thursday’s doubleheader with Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Mount Ida, taking game one 3-1, but dropping game two 4-0. With the split, Simmons advances to 7-16 on the year, 5-7 in the GNAC.

  • Sharks Fall to St. Joseph's in Softball Doubleheader

    Simmons Softball fell to Saint Joseph College of Maine on Friday night 3-1 and 7-2 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Sharks fall to 3-12 overall and 1-3 GNAC, while the Lady Monks improve to 2-2, 8-6 GNAC.
  • Sharks Softball Splits GNAC Opener with Saints

    Simmons Softball opened Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Sunday against Emmanuel College with a doubleheader split. Junior pitcher Sammi Letizio (Windham, N.H.) held Emmanuel to a 1-hitter, striking out seven and walking two to lead the Sharks to a 12-0 game one victory. Simmons dropped the evening game 4-2 to the Saints. Simmons is now 3-10 overall; 1-1 GNAC.
  • Softball 2009 Season Preview

    Simmons Softball returns to the field in 2009 after a strong 2008 performance, in which the Sharks achieved program-best records of 35-12 overall and 21-5 GNAC to finish ranked second in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference after the regular season. The Sharks went on to a third place finish in the GNAC Tournament, and made the program’s first appearance in the ECAC tournament seeded third, and finishing third.
