  • Three Simmons Softball Players Receive All-American Scholar-Athlete Honors

    Junior first baseman Leah Derderian (Boylston, Mass.), junior pitcher Sammi Letizio (Windham, N.H.) and sophomore catcher Emily Nalband (Litchfield, Conn.) were named All-American Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

    Simmons College freshman third baseman Dannie Szabo (White Plains, N.Y.) was named the 2008 ECAC Division III New England Softball Rookie of the Year and to the 2008 ECAC Division III New England All-Star First Team as announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference on Wednesday.

    A whirlwind season for the Simmons College softball team continued for at least one more day on Saturday, as the Sharks experienced to lowest of lows and the highest of highs in the span of just a few hours. dropping one, and winning the second to advance to the final day of the ECAC tournament at Brandeis University.

    The Simmons College softball team has been making history all season long, and it didn’t stop Wednesday in the first ever postseason game in team history. The Sharks, who are seeded third in the ECAC tournament, took on Nichols College, and came away with a 4-1 win, and the first postseason win in program history.

    The Simmons College softball team closed out its regular season this weekend with a wild ride in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament. The Sharks finished 2-2 and wound up in third place but they played some memorable softball all weekend long.

    The Simmons College softball team stayed the course on Wednesday, picking up two more wins over Albertus Magnus, by scores of 13-3 and 11-1. In game one the Sharks got out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a three-run homer from freshman Dannie Szabo.

  • Softball Picks Up Two Wins Against JWU In GNAC Double Header

    East Providence, R.I. – The Simmons softball team picked up a pair of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests against Johnson & Wales at Pierce Field on Saturday afternoon. Simmons posted an 8-2 win in the opener and finished the day with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.
  • Sharks Take Two Over DWC

    The Simmons College softball team remained unbeaten in GNAC play on Sunday taking a doubleheader sweep from Daniel Webster with scores of 6-1 and 8-0. In the first game Daniel Webster got on the board in the top of the first, courtesy of a single, stolen base, and an RBI groundout. But the Sharks answered in the home half of the first, when Emily Nalband reached base to start the game, and scored on an RBI single from Dannie Szabo.

  • Simmons Softball Off to Excellent Start

    The Simmons softball team soared to new heights at its annual Florida trip last week, winning a school record nine games down south against just one setback. The Sharks got contributions from everyone, whether it was with the bat, the glove, or in the circle. Freshman Dannie Szabo burst onto the college scene with a team best .484 batting average, while also belting two homers and driving in a team leading 12 RBI. Senior captain Ann Talarico was close behind with a .441 average and 10 runs batted in while playing flawless defense at shortstop. Senior Natalie West batted .400 for the week as well contributing a homer and six RBI.
