PAXTON, Mass. -- Four different players scored for the Simmons University field hockey team in a 4-1 victory over host Anna Maria College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match today on AMCAT Field in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 6-8 and 2-4.

Simmons owned possession throughout the match with a 14-5 shooting advantage, including 6-1 in a second half that saw it outscore Anna Maria, 3-0. The Sharks were also afforded 11 penalty corner opportunities, while allowing none to their hosts.

It took the entire first half for Simmons to get on the board and ignite four unanswered markers for the rest of the afternoon. The Sharks were awarded a penalty corner as time ran out in the opening half and sophomore midfielder Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, N.Y.) took a cross from senior back Meghan Fontaine (Westminster, Mass.) and tallied her second goal of the season to even the score at 1-1.

Simmons took the lead for good, just 5:06 into the second stanza, when senior forward Adrianna Fournier (Newport, Vt.) ripped her second score of the year with 29:54 left in the second half for a 2-1 edge. Junior midfielder Hannah Scott (Claremont, N.H.) followed just 3:34 later with her fourth marker of the season to give the Sharks a 3-1 lead. Junior forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) capped the scoring for Simmons, on a feed from senior midfielder Ana Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.), with her third goal of the year to increase the Sharks advantage to 4-1 with 17:56 remaining in the contest. The Simmons defense continued its stellar effort for the day, holding the AMCATS without a shot over the final 33 minutes of action.

Anna Maria opened the scoring with six minutes left in the first half when junior midfielder Lauren Lapierre (Worcester, Mass.) found the back of the cage for her sixth marker of the season to put the AMCATS on the board at 1-0.

Sophomore goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) made two saves to earn the victory for the Sharks, while first year keeper Cassandra Micklesavage (Pottstown, Pa.) stopped five shots for Anna Maria.

Simmons returns to action on Wednesday, October 24 when it heads to New London, N.H. to take on GNAC foe Colby-Sawyer College at 3:30 p.m., while the AMCATS travel to Providence, R.I. on October 23 to play GNAC opponent Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 p.m.
