Plummer Named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University first year field hockey player Emily Plummer (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of September 3-9, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University first year field hockey player Emily Plummer (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week of September 3-9, it was announced today by the league. 

The midfielder tallied a pair of goals in as many shots in a pair of games for the Sharks. The Poway High School product scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, including the game-winner in a 3-1 victory over Westfield State University on September 6. 

Plummer becomes the Simmons first player to record multiple goals in a game during her first collegiate season since 2016 when current teammate Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) also scored twice in a match and becomes the first Shark to put two goals on the board in a match within the first four games of her career since Missie Maiewski tallied a pair of goals in her fourth outing during the 2015 campaign. 

For the season, the rookie has started all four matches she's appeared in and has registered two markers on five shots and served as the insert on penalty corner situations a team-high nine times. 

Simmons is currently 1-3 on the season and returns to action on Wednesday, September 12 when it travels to New Haven, Conn. to take on Albertus Magnus College at 4:00 p.m.
