BOSTON, Mass. - The Simmons College field hockey team was defeated by visiting Mount Holyoke College, 2-0, this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks' three-match win streak comes to an end as they fall to 9-4, while the Lyons extend their win streak to three in a row to improve to 8-4.

Despite being outshot, 21-2, and seeing the visitors own an 8-0 advantage on penalty corners, the Simmons defense did not allow a goal through the first 61 minutes of play. Mount Holyoke finally broke through with just over eight minutes to play and scored both of its goals in a five-minute span. 

Senior midfielder Sophie Perekslis (Millerton, N.Y.) sent a cross from the near side to first year back Mirei Golding-Powers (San Francisco, Calif.), who tallied her first collegiate goal for the Lyons with 8:02 left in the second stanza. The assist gave Perekslis her 100th career point. Golding-Powers returned the favor when she found Perekslis in a scrum in front of the cage, following a flurry of shots, for her 10th marker of the year and a 2-0 lead with 3:53 to go in the match.  

Senior forwards Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) and Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) each fired a shot to pace the Sharks' offensive effort. 

First year goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) was outstanding for Simmons, matching her career best with 13 saves, while first year back Abigail Anderson (South Yarmouth, Mass.) registered her seventh defensive save for the year. Sophomore keeper Morgan Turner (Chester, N.J.) stopped the only shot she faced to earn the victory for Mount Holyoke.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, October 14 when they host Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at 11:00 a.m. on Daly Field, while the Lyons host Wheaton College (Mass.) on the same day at 12:00 p.m.
