NEW LONDON, N.H. - Senior forward Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) tallied a goal and recorded an assist to become Simmons College field hockey's all-time leading scorer with 139 points and lead the Sharks over host Colby-Sawyer College, 2-0, this afternoon at Veitch Turf Field in New London, N.H. Simmons has now won seven of its last eight matches and improves to 8-3 on the season, while the Chargers fall to 7-4 on the year.

Saltamartini opened the scoring with her team-leading 10th goal of the season to tie the Sharks' all-time points mark of 138 points, held by Tanya Rego (2002-05), and assisted on the team's second marker to give her the record. She now has 62 goals and 15 assists for her tenure at Simmons.

The Sharks held a slight 9-7 advantage on shots, while Colby-Sawyer owned a 5-4 penalty corners edge.

Simmons got on the board when junior midfielder Meghan Fontaine (Westminster, Mass.) sent a cross to Saltamartini, who ripped a shot from 10-yards out on the right side to the opposite corner of the cage at the 17:12 of the first half. Saltamartini set up the Sharks' second talley, flanked on the right side of the cage, where she sent a pass to the front of the goalmouth to sophomore forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.), who beat the keeper to the left side. The score was her third marker of the season and gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with 4:56 left in the first period.

Both teams were scoreless in the second stanza, combining for just seven shots in a defensive battle.

Junior forwards Emily Hichborn (Exeter, N.H.) and Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) each fired a pair of shots to lead the Chargers' offensive effort.

First year goalkeeper Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) stopped all four shots she faced in 62:41 of action for Simmons, before yielding to sophomore Danielle Francis (Oxford, Mass.) for the final 7:19 of play. First year goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) made a pair of saves for Colby-Sawyer.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, October 7 when they travel to Nashua, N.H. to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Rivier University at 1:00 p.m., while the Chargers head to Bangor, Maine on the same day for a 7:00 p.m. contest with Husson University.
