BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner to lead the Simmons College field hockey team over visiting Wheaton College (Mass.), 3-2, this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their fourth straight match and five of their last six to improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Lyons fall to 3-3. 

Simmons limited Wheaton to nine shots, while attempting 15 of its own in the match. 

Rondeau broke a 2-2 tie for the Sharks when she collected a rebound off a shot from junior forward Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) and flipped a shot just inside the far right post for her team-leading seventh goal of the season with just 1:59 left in the first half. The marker would cap the scoring for both teams in the final 37 minutes of action. 

Rondeau opened the contest's scoring as well with Simmons junior defensive midfielder Meghan Fontaine (Westminster, Mass.) sending a long cross from outside circle into the right slot, where Rondeau tipped the pass in for a score with 26:33 remaining in the first period.  Rondeau returned the favor when her insert pass on a penalty corner found a waiting Fontaine at the top of the circle, where she gathered the cross and ripped a shot that found the back of the cage with 21:25 showing on the first half clock for a 2-0 Sharks' advantage. 

Simmons looked to be in control, but less than five minutes later, senior forward Kelsey Buckley (Gilford, N.H.) tallied her seventh marker of the year for the Lyons after having her initial shot stopped, but was able to make good on the put-back with 16:47 to go in the match. The score cut the deficit in half at 2-1 for the visitors. Wheaton put the equalizer on the board when senior forward Katie Peters (Medway, Mass.) set up junior midfielder Michelle Connolly (Stoughton, Mass.) for a one-timer. Peters sent a short cross to the far left post to Connolly, who buried the shot to pull Wheaton even at 2-2 with 10:24 to go in the first half. 

The second half was devoid of the plentiful scoring of the first half with both teams combining for 10 shots, including six for Simmons. 

First year goalkeeper Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) made six saves to earn the victory for the Sharks, while senior Riley Thompson (Fairfield, Conn.) stopped nine shots for the Lyons.

Simmons returns to action when it heads to Weston, Mass. to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Regis (Mass.) at 11:00 a.m., while Wheaton travels to Worcester to play New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference rival Clark University at the same time and day.
