BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons College field hockey team was shut out by visiting Smith College, 3-0, on Tuesday evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. in a non-conference match.
The Sharks drop to 5-4 on the season, while the Pioneers improve to 5-4.

Senior goalie Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) made 12 stops on a night that saw Smith outshoot the Sharks 19-3. Junior goalie Cameo Tietje (Massepequa, N.Y.) earned the shutout with two saves for the Pioneers, increasing her career shutout total to five and extending her scoreless streak to 156:44.

Smith sophomore back Beatrice Chaudoin (Millersville, Md.) opened the scoring just over 21 minutes into the match, when she ripped a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Junior forward Julia Hamilton (Williamstown, Mass.) took the penalty corner for the Pioneers passing off to sophomore forward Bayleigh Bogan (Encinitas, Calif.) who nudged it along to Chaudoin for the scoring strike.

First year forward Devon Datsis (York, Maine) made it a two goal lead for the Pioneers 91 seconds before the end of the first half when she knocked in her first collegiate goal in the midst of a scrum in front of the Sharks' cage.

The Pioneers scoring was rounded out by first year back Sammie Pavlov (Royersford, Pa.), who also notched her first collegiate goal on a penalty stroke just over five minutes into the second half. That would be all the scoring for both teams for the remaining 30 minutes of the match.

Simmons had its best scoring chance midway through the first half with a shot by sophomore midfielder Ana Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) just outside the circle, which rebounded out to junior forward Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.), who was denied with a defensive save by sophomore back Raegan Stokes (Watertown, Conn.).

Senior forward Mary Neidhardt (Middlefield, Conn.) had a chance late in the match looking to get the Sharks on the board, but was denied by Tietje on the fast break.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they host conference foe Lasell College at Daly Field at 11:00am, while the Pioneers are on the road for a match with Wellesley College on the same day at noon.
