Rastello Named GNAC Field Hockey Goalie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College field hockey playerBrianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Goalie of the Week for the week of September 19-25, it was announced by the league today. 

The honor marks the eighth time in her career that she has earned the weekly award. 

In two matches, the senior stopped 17 of 19 shots in 140 minutes of action to post a .895 save percentage and a 1.00 goals against mark.  The keeper began the week by making 14 saves in a 2-1 defeat at Wheaton College on September 20 and turned away all three shots she faced in a 2-0 shutout victory at Anna Maria College on September 24. 

For the season, Rastello currently leads the league in save percentage (.854), goals against average (1.24) and shutouts (one) in 337:22 minutes of action in five matches. She ranked 17th in the nation in save percentage in the latest NCAA Division III rankings. The Salem High School product has recorded double-digit save totals twice this season and has not allowed more than two goals in any of her appearances. 

Rastello has enjoyed an outstanding career for the Sharks and will graduate as one of the greatest keepers in program history. She has started all 50 matches she's played in, while owning a career record of 32-18 as the winningest goalie in school history. Rastello has 15 career shutouts as part of a 1.24 career goals against average, while making 255 saves to register a lifetime .804 save percentage. She was named to the GNAC First Team following her sophomore campaign in 2014. The Granite State native ranked fourth in the nation in GAA with a 0.74 mark last year, which was also the second-lowest in school history. 

Simmons is currently 5-3 on the season, including 2-0 in league play. He Sharks return to action on Tuesday, September 27 when they host Smith College on Daly Field at 7:00 p.m.
