Four Different Players Score Twice for Field Hockey in 8-2 Win over Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. ? Four different players scored a pair of goals for the Simmons College field hockey team in an 8-2 victory over visiting Wheelock College this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their third straight match to improve to 3-2, while the Wildcats fall to 1-4.

BOSTON, Mass. – Four different players scored a pair of goals for the Simmons College field hockey team in an 8-2 victory over visiting Wheelock College this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks win their third straight match to improve to 3-2, while the Wildcats fall to 1-4. 

Simmons outshot Wheelock, 22-11, and held a 5-4 edge on penalty corners. 

Junior forwards Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) and Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) and sophomore forward Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) each tallied five points with a pair of goals and an assist for the Sharks, while first year forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) scored a pair of markers as well for Simmons. 

First year goalies Audrey Simmons (Fairhaven, Mass.) (three saves) and Danielle Francis (Oxford, Mass.) (one save) combined for the victory with Simmons seeing time the first 35 minutes of action and Francis playing the entire second half. 

Junior forwards Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Abbey Raymond (Salem, N.H.) each notched a goal for the Wildcats. First year keeper Isabelle Salvati (Dover, N.H.) stopped 10 shots for the visitors. 

Frade put Wheelock on the board first just 2:51 into the match when she carried the ball into the circle and used a backhanded sweep to connect for her team-leading fourth score of the season to give the visitors a 1-0 edge. 

The Sharks answered with five unanswered goals, including four before the end of the first half, to take a 5-1 advantage. Saltamartini scored with 29 minutes left in the period and Trull tallied her first goal of the evening 2:11 later, before Rondeau registered a pair of goals with 12:06 and 4:32, respectively, remaining in the half to give her four on the year. Maiewski's first marker of the evening came just 26 ticks into the second stanza for a 5-1 advantage. 

The teams combined for three goals in the opening 2:28 of the second half. Raymond cut the deficit to 5-2 for the Wildcats when senior midfielder Courtney Scherer (Pawcatuck, Conn.) found her on a penalty corner for a successful shot from the top of the circle, 54 seconds after Maiewski's goal. Maiewski countered 68 seconds later with her second tally of the game and third of the season to give the Sharks a 6-2 lead. 

Simmons closed out the contest with the final two goals of the night. Trull recorded her third marker of the year on a shot from the top left spot, inside the circle, with 27:55 to go. Saltamartini capped the scoring after taking a centering cross from Maiewski and buried a shot inside the right post for her team-high sixth goal of the year with 12:03 remaining in the match. 

The Sharks return to action when they open the Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, September 17, hosting Mount Ida College at Daly Field at 11:00 a.m., while Wheelock heads to New London, N.H. to take on Colby-Sawyer College on September 21 at 4:00 p.m.
