Saltamartini Named GNAC Field Hockey Rookie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced today by the league.

Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 8-14, it was announced by the league today. The honor marks the second straight week she has earned the award.

The honor marks a league-high fourth time that she has won the award. She was also named the GNAC?s top rookie last week as well as for the weeks of September 1-7 and September 8-14.

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College field hockey player Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced today by the league.

The honor is the second in as many weeks for the Sharks' field hockey team. Sophomore Brianna Rastello (Manorville, N.Y.) was named the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week last week.

In three matches, Saltamartini tallied five points on two goals and an assist. The first year was instrumental in all three of Simmons' goals in its 5-3 loss to Massachusetts Institute of Technology on September 4. A graduate of Pinkerton Academy, Saltamartini scored her first collegiate goal at 29:06 of the first half vs. the Engineers and added her second tally late in the second half to bookend an assist on the Sharks' second marker of the night. The forward received the first starting assignment of her collegiate career vs. Worcester Polytechnic Institute on September 6.

Saltamartini currently leads Simmons in goals (two) and points (five) and has started one of three matches she has appeared in. She's tied for second among league leaders in goals and stands third in points.

The Sharks are currently 1-3 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday, September 9 when they travel to Weston, Mass. to take on Regis College at 6:00 p.m.
