BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore forward Jena Mazzucco (Danbury, CT) scored with 10 seconds left in overtime to give the Worcester Polytechnic Institute field hockey team a 1-0 victory over host Simmons College this afternoon on Winsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Engineers improve to a perfect 3-0, while the Sharks fall to 1-3 on the season. 

WPI owned a 16-6 shot advantage, including all seven in overtime, and controlled the penalty corners by a count of 12-2. 

Junior midfielder Grace Davis (Sandwich, Mass.) carried the ball into the circle and lifted a cross from the right slot to Mazzucco in the right slot for a one-timer that found the back of the cage at 84:50. It was her second tally of the season and second game-winner. 

Simmons' best scoring chance came 20 minutes into the second half when first year forward Julie Saltamartini (East Hampstead, N.H.) led classmate Samantha Rondeau (Franklin, Mass.) with a cross to the right slot, but Engineers' junior keeper Lauren Puishys (Oxford, Mass.) was able to stick her foot out just enough to trap the ball and prevent the scoring shot. She finished the match with three saves to earn her second shutout of the year. 

Sophomore goalie Brianna Rastello (Salem, N.H.) came up big for the Sharks late in the second half as WPI put a flurry of shots on target in the final two minutes. Davis was denied at 68:12 for WPI and senior forward Mary-Lee Barboza (Rochester, Mass.) was turned away twice by Rastello, in the next seven seconds, to preserve the scoreless tie. Rastello finished with nine saves on the day for Simmons. 

The Sharks will be in action again on Tuesday, September 9 when they travel to Weston, Mass. to take on Regis College at 6:00 p.m., while the Engineers head to Fitchburg, Mass. on the same day to play Fitchburg State University at 4:00 p.m.
