#23 Greyhounds Score 14 in First Inning to Win 20-3

The 23rd-ranked Moravian College softball team captured its fourth consecutive victory with a 20-3, five-inning win over Simmons College at the National Training Center Friday afternoon.

Moravian sent 19 batters to the plate in the top of the first inning and scored 14 times. Freshman catcher Cassie Ernst had a two-RBI double while junior pitcher Jenna Carmon had an RBI single. Sophomore third baseman Shannen Mohr contributed a two-RBI double before senior outfielder Maura Agnew had an RBI double. Senior second baseman Stephanie Falzarano hit a two-RBI triple in her second at-bat of the inning while freshman outfielder Miranda Sergas had an RBI fielder's choice as senior second baseman Stephanie Falzarano beat a throw to the plate. Mohr added another two-RBI double in her second trip to the plate while Agnew had another RBI double. Sophomore first baseman Amanda Dizinno, pictured at right, had an RBI single to score the 14th run of the inning.

The Greyhounds scored four more times in the top of the second for an 18-0 lead. Agnew hit an RBI single to score Carmon while Dizinno had a two-RBI single that also had an error which allowed three runs to score.

Moravian added a run in the top of the fourth inning when freshman third baseman Leann Ventriglia led off with a bunt single and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Simmons would score its three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Third baseman Steph Murray drew a bases loaded walk for an RBI while shortstop Annie Thompson hit a two-RBI single.

The Greyhounds would score their final run in the top of the fifth inning when freshman outfielder Alycia Sabol walked and scored on a pinch hit RBI triple by senior Elizabeth Python.

Moravian had a 21-4 advantage in hits in the game with Carmon, Agnew, pictured at left, and Dizinno each going three-for-three. Falzarano was two-for-two for the Greyhounds while Thompson was two-for-three for Simmons.

Freshman Elizabeth Tillou earned her first collegiate victory in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing three unearned runs on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts in four innings of relief action. Carmon tossed the first inning of the game with a hit and two strikeouts. Simmons used three pitchers with Sammi Letizio suffering the loss.
