Amanda Arpé has been on staff at Simmons since the fall of 2010, when she joined the department as the Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach. Arpé has since steadily risen through the department ranks throughout her tenure, being promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics in January, 2016 to her most recent promotion to Associate Athletic Director in May, 2022. 

Establishing herself as the most successful field hockey coach and mentor in school history, Arpé has enjoyed unprecedented success as the program’s all-time winningest coach. Amassing a 107-100 overall record, including a 35-15 GNAC mark, she guided the Sharks to the GNAC post-season tournament in each of her 12 seasons. A two-time Coach of the Year recipient (1 GNAC, 1 NAC) she led the Sharks to back-to-back GNAC titles in 2014 and 2015. 

The 2014 crown marked the first NCAA Championship Tournament berth for Simmons field hockey in school history and earned her GNAC Coach of the Year honors. Arpé duplicated her success a year later, tying the program record in wins, posting a 14-5 record to win the GNAC Championship for a second straight year. The following year, she brought the Sharks back to the GNAC title game for a third straight year, before falling to Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in a tight 1-0 battle. 

Under Arpé’s leadership, the Sharks have been featured numerous times amongst the nation’s leaders in multiple categories. In 2015, Simmons was ranked first in the country in shutouts per game, while goalkeeper Brianna Rastello finished fourth with .74 goals against average. Fellow goalkeeper Lucy McNamara climbed to ninth in 2019 in save percentage (.830). Offensively, Julia Saltmartini finished amongst the top-20 nation’s leaders in back-to-back years (2016, 2017), including a 10th in 2017. As a team, in the fall of the 2021, the Sharks were 10th in the country in goals per game (3.88) and 11th in scoring average (3.79). 

Arpé has recruited, coached and developed the GNAC’s first two-time Offensive Player of the Year (Julia Saltamartini, 2015, 2016) as well as eight NFHCA All-Region selections, including four first team honorees and one two-time recipient (Saltamartini, 2015, 2016). She also coached a trio of Defensive Player of the Years (Maizy Wagner, Robin Powell, Meghan Fontaine), two Rookie of the Years (GNAC Saltamartini, 2014; Lucy McNamara, 2018; NAC Jenna Gagnon, 2013) and one Goalkeeper of the Year (Lucy McNamara, 2019). Arpé additionally coached a total of 31 All-Conference selections, including 14 first team picks between the Sharks time in NAC and GNAC. 

Away from the field, Arpé’s teams have excelled in the classroom, earning NFHCA All Academic Team honors with 160 earning NFHCA All-Academic individuals every season throughout her tenure. In addition, 32 of her players have earned NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors. 

Outside of field hockey, Arpé also spent five seasons at the helm of the Simmons lacrosse program, compiling a 33-29 overall record, including a 24-12 mark against GNAC opponents. She guided the Sharks to the GNAC Championship game in 2013, finishing second with a 10-4 record. In addition, Arpé coached a total of 14 All-Conference selections, one GNAC Defensive Player of the Year and one ECAC All-Star Team representative during her stint with the lacrosse program. 

In her role as Associate Athletic Director, Arpé supervises the part-time coaching staffs as well as the Manager of Daly Field. Additionally, she coordinates the pre-season return of student-athletes, Varsity game contracts and serves as the department liaison with public safety, dining services and residence life. Arpé represents Simmons within the GNAC as the conference’s sport chair for women’s lacrosse, making sure coaches and institutions are following conference protocol. 

Prior to joining the Simmons Athletics staff, Arpé had a successful career on the high school coaching circuit. She spent a year as a Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse coach at Mashpee High School. She led the field hockey team to a 10-3-5 record and an appearance in the South Division II tournament, while producing four South Shore All Stars. During the spring season, Arpé coached the lacrosse team to its first winning season in program history. In addition, she also spent one year as an assistant field hockey coach at Archbishop Williams High School. 

Arpé also spent five years as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach at NCAA Division II Stonehill College, helping the Skyhawks to a 51-14 record in her final three seasons. She was responsible for the planning of team practices, coaching the goalkeepers, game management, strength and conditioning, recruiting and scouting. Arpé also was the Assistant Director of the program’s field hockey camp. 

Along with being the Assistant Director of Stonehill’s Ultimate Field Hockey Camp, Arpé coached several other camps and clinics. She spent time at Springfield College’s YES Clinic and the East West Field Hockey Camp at Keene State. 

Arpé is a 2003 graduate of Hobart & William Smith Colleges where she earned her B.A. in American Studies. She was a four-year member of the varsity field hockey team that won the 2000 Division III National Championship.
