Simmons Tops GNAC Women's Athletics Programs with Student-Athletes Named to Academic All-Conference Team

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College placed 84 student-athletes on the 2017-18 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference team to lead all league members with the most student-athletes named, who competed on a women's team, it was announced today by the GNAC.

A total of 1,008 student-athletes from 13 full-time and 11 associate member schools received the honor. Recognized student-athletes maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average for the balance of their academic career, completed at least one full season of competition at a GNAC institution and was at least sophomore status academically.

For the eighth consecutive year, all nine of the Sharks' eligible athletic programs were recognized by the GNAC. Included in the Sharks' total are seven dual-sport athletes to bring the school's total representation to 91 spots on the all-academic squad. Simmons swimming & diving led the way for the Sharks with 20 student-athletes honored, followed by 17 student-athletes, who played soccer, 12 for field hockey, 11 from cross country, 10 competing in lacrosse, seven softball players, five each from volleyball and basketball and four from tennis. A total of nine Simmons student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the academic year.

Simmons sponsors 10 athletics programs, including crew, which competes in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Each team earned a respective GPA of at least 3.14 for the 2017-18 academic year and the department as a whole posted a 3.49 GPA.
