Simmons Places 84 on GNAC All-Academic Team

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College placed 84 student-athletes on the 2016-17 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Academic team to lead all league members with the most student-athletes named, who competed on a women's team, it was announced today by the GNAC.

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College placed 84 student-athletes on the 2016-17 Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Academic team to lead all league members with the most student-athletes named, who competed on a women's team, it was announced today by the GNAC.

A total of 893 student-athletes from 12 full-time and 12 associate member schools received the honor. Recognized student-athletes maintained a 3.25 cumulative grade point average for the balance of their academic career, completed at least one full season of competition at a GNAC institution and was at least sophomore status academically.

For the seventh consecutive year, all nine of the Sharks' eligible athletic programs were recognized by the GNAC. Simmons swimming & diving led the way for the Sharks with 18 student-athletes honored, followed by 15 student-athletes, who played field hockey, 13 for soccer, 12 from cross country, 11 competing in lacrosse, eight for basketball, seven from volleyball, five for softball and two from tennis. A total of nine Simmons student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the academic year.

Simmons sponsors 10 athletics programs, including crew, which competes in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference. Each team earned a respective GPA of at least 3.24 for the 2016-17 academic year and the department as a whole posted a 3.52 GPA.
